So far, only a short – but brilliantly animated – reveal trailer has been made public, so we’re not entirely sure how the game will play, but an excruciatingly short snippet of in-game footage seems to show the presence of usual tropes of the genre, i.e. base building and unit construction.

Fans of the Generation 1 cartoon will no doubt already be excited by the fact that Earth Wars follows the aesthetics of the 80s designs to the tee, but there’s even more good news. The game’s dialogue will be written by Transformers comic writer Simon Furman, and the original voice actors for Optimus Prime and Megatron – Peter Cullen and Frank Welker respectively – are confirmed to reprise their roles for the title. Get ready for a nostalgia overload.

Both voice actors most recently lent their talents to Platinum Games’ Transformers: Devastation, an action adventure title that we thought was pretty darn good and faithful to the source material.

We’re sure there’s many of you out there that dread to see the words mobile and free-to-play mentioned in the same sentence as video game, but we’ll reserve judgement for when Transformers: Earth Wars releases in Spring.

See you there, fellow robot lovers.
