The last week of June is shaping up to be a big one for Transformers fans, as not only does the latest film in the franchise release on the 27th, but Activision is also expected to launch Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark in North America on June 24.
Announced earlier this year, Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark is not only the next chapter in the “War For Cybertron” series, but also an adaptation of the upcoming Age Of Extinction movie. Previous series developer High Moon Studios had managed to keep the two universes separate, but it appears that Activision wants to merge the storylines with this new entry.
In addition to featuring a campaign that lets players choose between siding with either the Autobots or Decepticons, Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark will also feature the return of the Escalation multiplayer mode. Originally making its debut in Transformers: War For Cybertron, Escalation tasks up to four players with defending themselves against waves of increasingly tough opponents. Up to 40 different combatants will be playable and the experience points collected will be shared between the players.
I’m still cautiously optimistic about Rise Of The Dark Spark, even if I don’t approve of the merging of the videogame universe and the film universe. Edge Of Reality is a talented developer, though, Â and I think it would be prudent to write the game off as a cheap cash-in before we actually get our hands on it.
Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark will be available on June 24 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U and Windows PC.
