Insomniac Games may have had all hands at the pump guiding Ratchet & Clank onto PlayStation 4, but the studio has been quietly piecing together new projects beyond the reaches of the Solana galaxy.

Case in point: The Unspoken, an all-new VR title that blends magic duelling with first-person sorcery. Hatched in partnership with Oculus, Insomniac will be releasing the title exclusively for Oculus Rift, where it will be joined by the studio’s 3D brawler Feral Rites.

It’ll also make its bow for Oculus Rift later in 2016, and is pitched as a single-player adventure game about a jungle society that erupts in violence and chaos after the murder of its Chieftain (who happens to be the main character’s father).

Chad Dezern, Game Director at Insomniac’s North Carolina studio, spoke to Polygon about the developer’s prominent commitment to virtual reality, revealing that Insomniac are now “true believers” in the medium.

“It’s funny, €”when we started out, it wasn’t a given that we would have movement. We thought ‘this is a game that’s about casting real magic,’ maybe we keep both players rooted to a spot, and it’s a back-and-forth magicians’ duel. But then we had to prototype a movement scheme. We tried a lot of different things and when we got teleportation into play, it really did add a nice layer of spatial thinking to the game. Suddenly we could have cover points and high ground, and really understanding your surroundings and knowing where you’re opponent is became a huge part of play.”

Both The Unspoken and Feral Rites will utilize the platform’s Oculus Touch controllers and though no official release date was pegged down, expect each release to hit the head-mounted device before the year’s end. Making it three for three on Insomniac’s virtual reality catalog is Antarctic horror Edge of Nowhere, which switches up the VR formula by placing players in a third-person perspective.

We’ll be keeping track of The Unspoken, Feral Rites and Edge of Nowhere as each title nears release, but tell us, which of Insomniac’s VR roster are you most excited about?
