It’s been a prolific year for video games based on the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop games, and fans of these adaptations can rejoice at the news that there will be a chance to get hold of one more before 2015 is over. Warhammer 40,000 Dark Nexus Arena will be available through Steam Early Access from December 9th.

The game comes to players as packaged as a classic MOBA title, but with a few pleasing twists on the formula. Most notably players will find themselves freed from the typical “three lane” structure in favour of a map that offers greater fluidity of movement. It’s a move that developers Whitebox Interactive say will fit in line with what players would typically expect from a Warhammer 40K game.

The combat of the game also boasts a flexible approach with its skill-shot based control scheme. Basic and special attacks both have to be aimed, while players will also have the ability to dash and duck for cover, thus blending action-heavy shooter elements with the depth and character progression of a traditional MOBA.

You’ll be able to experience this gladiatorial combat as one of the many champions captured by the cruel Dark Eldar once the game hits Early Access on December 9th. The trailer – which you can view above – explains that “in the grim darkness of the far future there is only war.”

With Warhammer 40,000 Dark Nexus Arena, this grim future certainly looks to be an intriguing one.
