Wolfenstein: The New Order Announced

Announced today by Bethesda was Wolfenstein: The New Order, a title that the developer has been teasing for a while now. The new instalment in the popular franchise will be set in the 1960's and take place in an alternate universe "where the Nazi regime actually defeated the Allies and won World War II, the world has turned to ruins as the axis of evil has opted to build robot soldiers to aid them in their quest for world domination." Unfortunately for those evil Nazis though, B.J. Blazkowicz, the series' famous protagonist, is still alive and ready to kick some Nazi butt.

Announced today by Bethesda was Wolfenstein: The New Order, a title that the developer has been teasing for a while now. The new instalment in the popular franchise will be set in the 1960’s and take place in an alternate universe “where the Nazi regime actually defeated the Allies and won World War II, the world has turned to ruins as the axis of evil has opted to build robot soldiers to aid them in their quest for world domination.” Unfortunately for those evil Nazis though, B.J. Blazkowicz, the series’ famous protagonist, is still alive and ready to kick some Nazi butt.

MachineGames, a Swedish studio, will be developing the title for Bethesda and in a recent press release, they told gamers that it’s an honor to be involved with the project.

“We are excited to bring a new chapter of Wolfenstein to gamers everywhere. As fans of the series, working on this game is an honor, and our team is driven to create an unforgettable action-adventure experience that will make FPS fans proud.”

There’s no firm release date just yet but the game is expected to arrive in Q4 2013 and will be using the iD Tech 5 engine. Of course, it will also be arriving on the next-gen platforms as well as the XBOX 360 and PS3. Other than that, and the two images and announcement trailer below, we really don’t know much more about the game.

That being said, the release of a new Wolfenstein title is usually reason to get excited. The last game in the series, simply titled Wolfenstein, was an enjoyable, yet slightly flawed experience that provided a pretty rock solid single player campaign that gave us some fun weaponry and great battles. I didn’t care much for the online portion but overall, it was a decent game that I was happy to have played.

Though we don’t know too much about this new title just yet, I’m sure that we’re in for a treat. Blasting away Nazis is always fun and I can’t wait to see what MachineGames has in store for us.
