Tomas Alfredson Takes Over For Martin Scorsese On The Snowman

Variety is reporting that Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy director Tomas Alfredson will be taking over for Martin Scorsese on The Snowman. Scorsese had been attached to the project for a couple of years but has now moved to the producer seat. There's no reason given for the change of directors but one can only assume that it has something to do with Scorsese's increasingly busy slate.

Based on Jo Nesbo’s crime thriller of the same name, The Snowman centers on “loose cannon” detective Harry Hole, who “investigates the disappearance of a dozen women who went missing on the day of the first snowfall, including one whose pink scarf is tied around an “ominous-looking snowman.”

For more, check out the full synopsis below, via Amazon:

Oslo in November. The first snow of the season has fallen. A boy named Jonas wakes in the night to find his mother gone. Out his window, in the cold moonlight, he sees the snowman that inexplicably appeared in the yard earlier in the day. Around its neck is his mother’s pink scarf.

Hole suspects a link between a menacing letter he’s received and the disappearance of Jonas’s mother—and of perhaps a dozen other women, all of whom went missing on the day of a first snowfall. As his investigation deepens, something else emerges: he is becoming a pawn in an increasingly terrifying game whose rules are devised—and constantly revised—by the killer.

Not to be confused with Blood on Snow, another one of Nesbo’s crime thrillers that is currently in developmentThe Snowman boasts a script from Soren Sveistrup, who created the Danish version of The Killing. With Alfredson now on board though, it’s expected that he’ll take a pass at the screenplay as well before they head into production.

No word on casting just yet, but with the backing of Martin Scorsese and the incredibly talented Swedish director at the helm, you can bet that The Snowman will attract some A-list talent with ease.

As always, we’ll keep you posted as more updates arise. For now though, tell us, are you happy to see Tomas Alfredson stepping in for Martin Scorsese?
