10 Characters Who Should Make A Surprise Appearance In Logan

Logan looks set to be one of 2017's most exciting superhero movies, which is something most of us probably would have never said before the release of that amazing teaser trailer. While The Wolverine was a solid film, Fox has a spotty track record with their Marvel Comics adaptations, but it's quickly become apparent that this one will be something very special indeed. Bits and pieces about the plot are known and there have been a few rumours about what we should expect, but in terms of the characters set to appear, only a handful have been revealed. It's hard to believe that we won't see some familiar faces show up in some form though, because while this may be Wolverine's last adventure, there are plenty of other X-Men related movies on the way. What you'll find here then is a look at ten characters who could potentially make some sort of surprise appearance in Logan. Having them all showing up in some form would obviously be a bit much to ask for, but there's a strong chance we could see at least a few. Whether that will be as a cameo or even in an after-credits scene remains to be seen, but you'll definitely want to keep your eyes peeled for them. 10) Mister Sinister Rumour has it that Richard E. Grant is playing Dr. Zander Rice in Logan. That's a character with close ties to the creation of X-23, but as big bads go, it would be pretty underwhelming if those reports prove to be accurate and Mister Sinister never actually shows up. The X-Men: Apocalypse after-credits scene all but confirmed the villain's existence in this world, so it's entirely possible that Grant will be revealed as actually being Sinister. Alternatively, the movie may just hint towards his existence so he can take on a larger role in the next X-Men film or perhaps even in X-Force, but it would be genuinely very surprising if he doesn't appear here in some form. The iconic bad guy's big screen debut is long overdue, and Logan definitely feels like the right place for his first appearance. 9) The X-Men If you've read Old Man Logan, you'll know that it's revealed in flashbacks that Wolverine gave up his life as a superhero after he was tricked into slaughtering his fellow X-Men. When a group of supervillains decided to take over America, they targeted the X-Mansion and Logan went on the attack. After slicing his way through them all, it was revealed by Spider-Man villain Mysterio that the whole thing was an illusion and that Wolverine had just killed his friends. Distraught, he attempted suicide, and it's easy to imagine a scene similar to this playing out in this movie. If that's the case, some familiar faces from the original timeline showing up as they did at the end of Days of Future Past is very likely, but will Fox have the guts to show Wolverine killing the X-Men, even in an R-Rated flick? 8) Cable Despite the fact that Deadpool 2 recently lost its director, chances are that it will be the next Marvel movie from Fox to reach theaters after Logan. If that's the case, an after-credits scene setting up the events of the Merc with a Mouth's sequel would make sense, and a first look at Cable would be very cool for fans. Considering the fact that the role hasn't been cast yet, the studio will need to get this done soon, but it's possible something could be filmed to set up his future in the X-Men Universe. As a time traveller with ties to Mister Sinister, Cable coming back in time hoping to find Wolverine and realizing that he's no longer a hero could very well help set up the events of the X-Force spinoff being planned and may explain why he ultimately decides to track down the Merc with the Mouth instead. 7) X-Force Speaking of X-Force, while it's unlikely we'll see the team appear here, it's entirely possible that Logan could go some way in setting up that team being brought together. After all, the movie is set in the not too distant future, and with the X-Men no more, X-Force could be the team that's put together to replace them. An adult X-23 one day joining that group seems like an inevitability, so perhaps the movie could end with the youngster setting off on her own (assuming Wolverine dies) to find a team that have reportedly come together to protect what's left of mutantkind. Going back to Mister Sinister, he also has ties to this group, so assuming Fox has some sort of plan for the future in place, don't be too surprised if Logan at least teases the existence of this very different team of mutant heroes. 6) X-23 Ok, so right about now, you're probably wondering why on Earth X-23 is listed here when we already know that a young Laura Kinney will be appearing in Logan. Well, while we'll see the hero as a child, the movie ending with her as an adult suited up as the new Wolverine would be an amazing way of ensuring that the character's legacy lives on and obviously teases more to come for X-23 in the future in a very exciting way. For this to work, Fox will have to cast the older version in secret, but perhaps just a shot of her in costume from behind with her claws popping out as she looks for revenge will be more than enough to set up the events of a solo spinoff or even X-Force. 5) Deadpool Perhaps this is wishful thinking, but Deadpool appearing in Logan would be nothing short of incredible. The fact that these two iconic characters have never stood side by side on the big screen (we're choosing not to count the atrocious Origins) is nothing short of heartbreaking, and if this is really Hugh Jackman's final appearance as the hero, it has to happen here or it will simply never happen at all. How exactly the Merc with the Mouth could be incorporated into the very serious looking adventure is hard to say, but once again, an after-credits scene might work best. Depending on how things end for Wolverine, Fox could possibly come up with a light hearted tag where these two finally cross paths, though there's surely a way Wade Wilson could be worked into the story - even if it's just for a single action scene - seeing as Logan also has an R-Rating. 4) Lady Deathstrike We last saw Lady Deathstrike in X2, but the events of that movie were wiped from the timeline by X-Men: Days of Future Past. X-Men: Apocalypse proved that as a result of that, characters can be born again in different time periods (just try not to think too much about it), and with the cybernetically enhanced Reavers set to play a role in Logan, her making a surprise appearance here could definitely work. Assuming that we're going to spend some time with Laura Kinney while she's under the care of Weapon X, perhaps we could meet Deathstrike as a child, too. Even if she just makes what would essentially be a background appearance, Fox could go some way in setting the stage for her to return somewhere down the line, possibly as the enemy of X-23 assuming Deathstrike fails to escape alongside what could be her childhood friend. 3) Magneto When we last saw Magneto, he had seemingly embarked on a more heroic path. Many years have passed between the events of X-Men: Apocalypse and Logan of course, but it would still be very interesting if we were to find out more about what happened to the Master of Magnetism here. The end of Days of Future Past certainly didn't offer any hints, and with Charles Xavier set to play a key role in this movie, it could actually make a lot of sense for us to be informed about what his best friend and occasional enemy has been up to, even if he's just referenced in some way. It would, of course, also be nice to see Sir Ian McKellen make an actual physical appearance, and while it's hard to say what sort of role he could end up playing in the story, here's hoping he factors into it in some way, shape, or form. 2) Gambit Had everything gone according to plan, Gambit would have been released last month. As things currently stand, however, it honestly doesn't look like the movie is ever going to happen, but one way to generate some excitement for it would be to have Channing Tatum make some sort of cameo appearance in Logan. The two characters have some history of teaming up on the big screen after Taylor Kitsch played the hero in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, though it's tough to say whether that increases or decreases the chance of an appearance from the Cajun hero here. Gambit is also yet another character with links to Mr. Sinister, so that would be one way to incorporate him into this story, but unless Fox is committed to making the spinoff happen, maybe teasing fans with a cameo wouldn't be the wisest idea. 1) Sabretooth Both Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber have teased a possible appearance from Sabretooth in Logan, but there haven't actually been any significant rumblings about that actually happening recently. While X-Men Origins: Wolverine gave it a good go, we've yet to see the relationship between these two bitter enemies properly explored on the big screen, and considering the fact that Origins was wiped from history, it could be that an appearance from the villain here would just end up feeling really random. However, if handled well, Sabretooth being revealed as the mastermind behind the fall of the X-Men and X-23 being cloned from Wolverine could be a really exciting twist which leads to an epic final battle between the two. This is a character with a lot of potential, and seeing as Schreiber was so great in the role, seeing him reprise it here would be a great way to make Wolverine's final adventure even more special.
