Ever since The Force Awakens dropped back in December 2015, audiences have been eager to see what awaits new characters like Rey, Finn and Poe, as well as original favourites like Leia, Luke and Chewie in the next installment of the saga. Now, at last, Episode VIII is finally around the corner – and Lucasfilm are on hand to celebrate.

First revealed by the official Star Wars Twitter account, the studio have unveiled a short promo for The Last Jedi announcing that the sequel’s now a mere 100 days away. There’s not much in terms of footage here, unfortunately, but now that we’re closing in on its release, we expect the publicity engine for the pic to shift into high gear. After all, more and more tie-in merchandise is starting to pour in and fans are starved enough for new material that they’ve been spending tons of time analyzing action figures, trading cards, toys, etc. in the hopes of learning just a little bit more about what to expect from Rian Johnson’s entry into the saga.

Unfortunately, there’s still no word on when we’ll get the first full trailer, but given that Lucasfilm is acknowledging the 100 day mark and beginning to ramp up the promotional campaign, we imagine that it’ll be in the next 3-4 weeks. After all, that’s around the time that tickets for The Last Jedi will go on sale and it’d make sense to drop the next preview to tie in with that.

While there have been some worrying behind the scenes issues with the upcoming Han Solo prequel, arriving in May 2018, and now Episode IX, everything about this next chapter of the saga is pointing to it being yet another major success for the franchise, in both a critical and financial sense. With a gifted writer/director in Johnson, an all-star cast of rising talents and Hollywood icons and some exciting developments promised, The Last Jedi is set to be one of the most thrilling movies of the year – and the official countdown until it arrives starts now!
