Though they lack the luster of the Academy Awards, Golden Globes and Emmys, the People’s Choice Awards are always still interesting to watch if for nothing more than the opportunity to scratch one’s head at the ever-elusive identity of the “People,” that voter base which so reliably nominates some terrific films right up along with some truly horrendous ones year after year. 2015, it appears, will be no different.
The nominees for all major categories were announced earlier today, and you can check out the full list of them on the next page. There are some strong contenders in the film categories, like Guardians of the Galaxy for Favorite Movie and The LEGO Movie for Favorite Family Movie, but also some bizarre choices, like The Other Woman and Blended for Favorite Comedic Movie and Annabelle for Favorite Thriller Movie.
My favorite section of the nominations this year, though, would have to be in the Favorite Cable TV Drama, where True Detective is nominated up against Pretty Little Liars (and if you think the former series has an edge, you’re probably unfamiliar with the People’s Choice Awards).
Regardless, voting, which can be done online via the People’s Choice Awards website, ends on Thursday, December 4th, ahead of the live ceremony on January 7th, which will be hosted by Anna Faris and Allison Janney, the stars of CBS sitcom Mom.
Check out the list of nominees on the next page and tell us what you think are the year’s biggest surprises and snubs!
