5 More Star Wars Characters That Deserve Spin-Off Films

Rumours are swirling about Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg writing stand-alone films for the Star Wars universe, prompting some to believe the ultimate goal of Disney is to follow the Marvel formula and eventually release 2-3 films a year set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

It’s been reported that Han Solo, Boba Fett, and Yoda are all in line for their own spin-off films, and the potential of those flicks have many fans giddy with excitement. While Disney has yet to confirm these films, if nothing else, the fan response to the rumours should prompt them to proceed with those plans and make movies for those three characters (or at least Bobba Fett).

If Disney does indeed plan a whole universe worth of films, it’s likely that a lot of the stand-alone movies will be based on characters from the expanded universe or even characters created by Disney. I’d hope the people at Disney don’t feel the need to create characters since there are thousands of already existing characters out there, but I could see them looking to build their own universe instead of pulling from what has been established. Regardless of what they do in terms of bringing in new characters, there are still some awesome ones from the past six films that deserve two hours to themselves.

I’ve compiled a list of 5 more Star Wars characters that I think would make for awesome films. I’ve pulled these characters from the previous films, but I’ve also taken into account their expanded universe appearances. On the assumption that the spin-off rumours are indeed true, the three characters mentioned above aren’t included as Disney already has plans for them.

So head to the next page to read my first choice for another awesome stand-alone Star Wars film!

ahhahahahahahahaha u my friend are a legend

  • dangeer

The story of Darth Maul surviving has already been done in The Clone Wars TV series, and done very well at that. But a Maul origin story might be good.

  • JC

Leave an Ewoks spinoff for Disney Channel or a direct to dvd film, not for a theatrical release.

  • Ryan

Yes yes! You so got this right. With the exception of the Ewoks. And Obi-wan or Darth Maul should be the #1 choice for any Star Wars fan. Great article, thnx! (:

  • Ryan

Nope on Ewoks or Wedge. How about Mace Windu

  • Mr Sinister

Wedge all the way the unsung hero of star wars I would also love a Grand Moff Tarkin flick but without the amazing late Peter Cushing I doubt it would deliver.

  • Eric Shelton

Darth Maul? You mean the over-the-top spinning ballerina? The opposite of Jar Jar that still equally showed Lucas has no concept of character or subtlety? That guy? Groan…. The ONLY good thing about the prequels was Ewan MacGregor as Obi-Wan. An Obi-Wan or a Wedge movie would be great.

  • Anubis2705

Darth Maul? seriously? The guy who can only stand around, look dagerous and wave around with his lightsaber? Darth Plagueis, Palpatine or Grievous would be far more interesting material for an own movie. And if someone would make an adaptation of “Darth Plagueis” by James Luceno, there would be still enough Maul.

The Ewoks had two spin-off-movies and… yeah, just forget them. I like the battle-teddies as long as they destroy AT-STs and drive speederbikes, but no own movies – it just dosn’t work.
    But i absolutly agree about Obi-Wan ;-)

What no love for Dash Rendar from “Shadows of the Empire”?

There’s also a story that mixes ,ail and obi wan again on tattooine in between episode III & IV they could do something off that

  • Colonel Solo

Ewoks are a terrible Idea for a film. I am also under 35 and while Ewoks were a pivotal people for the rebellion, by themselves they are no more interesting then the Gungans (fuck you JarJar). Anyways, I’d like to see Greivous as the warrior he once was.

I am 100% in agreement, especially on the Lando & Obi-wan ones.
