9 Characters We Want Spider-Man To Team Up With On The Big Screen

The best part about Spider-Man finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe was the chance to see him rub shoulders with the rest of Earth's Mightiest Heroes for the first time. So far, Marvel has delivered on this promise and then some, with Tom Holland making his spectacular debut as Peter Parker in the middle of Captain America: Civil War. That was then brilliantly followed up with Spider-Man: Homecoming, which heavily featured Iron Man. But the Marvel universe is a very big place, and there are still many heroes we've yet to see Spidey get to work with in the MCU. Some of these are characters he briefly encountered in Civil War but we'd like to see him run into again in a larger capacity in a future movie. Others are heroes who exist in the MCU but haven't crossed paths with Peter, while some are complete wish fulfillment. They're unlikely to happen but boy, would we love it if they did. Apparently, the idea is for future Spidey movies to continue pairing the wallcrawler with different heroes. Along with the Avengers films, then, there should be plenty of opportunities for the character to come into contact with the following 9 individuals. Doctor Strange Let's start with one team-up we know is definitely going to happen and we can't wait to see. To make the most of having every single MCU hero sharing a movie, Avengers: Infinity War will feature some unlikely super-partnerships. One that sounds like the most fun is Spider-Man and Doctor Strange. In the comics, Peter Parker and Stephen Strange have formed an unlikely bond. Their differences - Spidey is a follower of science while Strange is a man of magic - have made them a great double act and we hope to see that replicated on screen. In fact, their odd couple dynamic should be even more pronounced seeing as Peter's about twenty years younger than Strange in the MCU. Will Stephen's big ego be able to cope with an impetuous teenager as a partner? The Russo brothers have teased that Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Holland have "a great chemistry" in the movie, which shouldn't be surprising after the two Brits previously worked together on The Current War. The pair aren't going to be the heart of the film or anything, but they should definitely be a welcome addition to the proceedings. Captain Marvel Brie Larson is set to debut as the MCU's first ever female lead (you took your time, guys!) in 2019's Captain Marvel, which will open the door to many new storytelling opportunities for the franchise's future. One of those is giving us another hero we want to see Spidey team up with. Spider-Man and Captain Marvel have worked together many times in the comics, both in and out of their superhero costumes. They were both employed by the Daily Bugle and even once went on a date. In the MCU, the characters' romantic connection could be given a humorous twist - it'd be funny to see the teenage Spidey crushing on his older Avengers teammate. The first time that Spider-Man and Captain Marvel are set to share the screen will be in Avengers 4, though we shouldn't expect there to be a lot of time for them to get to know each other in the jam-packed event movie. Thankfully, there's more room for this to happen over Phase 4, as you can bet that Carol Danvers will have a major presence in the MCU going forward - as will Tom Holland's Spidey. Ant-Man What a perfect team Spider-Man and Ant-Man would make. I mean, they're both themed after insects, so why wouldn't they be best buds? Well, apart from the fact that they fought on different sides in Captain America: Civil War, of course. In a less combative situation, though, Peter Parker and Scott Lang should get on like a house on fire. Despite their difficult lives, both heroes are very optimistic, good-hearted guys who are overcome with a childlike wonder at working with the Avengers. Once the bridges between the two halves of the superhero team are rebuilt after the events of Infinity War and its sequel, how about having Ant-Man turn up in Homecoming 2? Even Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland, thinks Scott Lang should be his next superhero partner, as he said he wants to have a "bug bros session" with the astonishing shrinking man. There's not a particularly strong history in the comics between these characters, but the cinematic versions have got to get together. Captain America Captain American might have already turned up in Spider-Man: Homecoming in a series of hilarious school training videos, but it would be fun if he could appear in the flesh for the sequel. Seeing as Iron Man served as Spidey's mentor in Homecoming, it only makes sense for the next film to pair him up with that other top-tier Avenger. While Peter and Steve don't have that immediate connection of being science geniuses like Parker does with Tony, you only have to watch Cap and Spidey's first meeting in Captain America: Civil War to see that they do have some things in common and a mutual respect. Though they were on opposing sides, Steve and Peter exchanged a few words during the airport fight and seemed to form a small bond over the fact that they were both born and raised in New York. If the pair were to get to know each other some more, they could also share their experiences of having great responsibility thrust upon them. All this said, there is some doubt over whether Steve Rogers will make it out of the Avengers' battle with Thanos alive, so any bonding between Cap and Spidey might need to happen in Infinity War or Avengers 4. Fantastic Four It's fair to say that just about every Marvel fan out there wants Fox to relinquish their grip on the Fantastic Four and return them to their natural home at Marvel Studios. If our prayers were to be answered in the near future, though, we don't necessarily want another Fantastic Four solo movie. It would probably bomb anyways, after the three previous efforts have bored audiences. Instead, it would be a clever idea to have a future Spider-Man film launch Marvel's First Family in the MCU. This would work from a story standpoint, too, as Spidey and the FF go back a long way, with Peter even joining the team on occasion. In particular, one of Peter's best super-friends is Johnny Storm AKA The Human Torch, but we've yet to see this classic bromance materialize on screen. With his reckless ways, Johnny could tempt Peter with enjoying the celebrity part of being a superhero, leading to the traditional 'Peter needs to learn responsibility' story. Deadpool As we're now entering the realms of wish-fulfillment and imagining the walls between the studios breaking down, let's talk about one cross-franchise crossover we really would love to see but will likely never happen (at least not any time soon): Spider-Man meets Deadpool! Despite their extreme difference in methods, the wallcrawler and the Merc with the Mouth have always enjoyed a staunch friendship in the comics. On the surface, the pair have a lot in common. Both Peter and Wade are fast-talking, funny guys with a love of red spandex. Just look at how Ryan Reynolds likes to rib Tom Holland on Twitter for a flavour of the characters' dynamic. In all likelihood, the best we could hope for here is maybe Holland popping up for a cameo in a future Deadpool movie. He probably wouldn't be able to play Spidey due to rights complications, but we're sure the anti-hero would still crack wise about meeting Spider-Man. Wolverine Wolverine's future is totally up in the air at the moment, with Fox not immediately considering recasting the X-Men leader after Hugh Jackman bowed out of the role with this year's Logan. It's vaguely possible, then, that Marvel could acquire the rights to the character at some point. And if that did ever happen, the first port of call would be to have him team up with Spider-Man. Unlike Spidey and Deadpool, the joy of a partnership between Peter Parker and Logan is their completely opposing personalities. Wolverine is a cynical old soul who's seen it all while Peter is a peppy, wide-eyed kid. That said, the pair can go toe-to-toe in a fight and the question of who would beat who in a brawl is one fans would love to see answered on screen. The tragic thing is, we could have had this crossover already. Back in 2002's Spider-Man, Hugh Jackman was offered a quick cameo in the movie but the whole thing fell through due to, of all things, a hiccup with his costume. But hey, Jackman has said he would consider playing Wolvie again in the MCU. So maybe this could take place for real one day... Daredevil Though they're not separated by different studios, we've been repeatedly told that a crossover between Marvel's movies and TV shows is not on the horizon. Let's hope things change, though, as a Spider-Man/Daredevil team-up is the stuff Marvel fanboys' dreams are made of. The webslinger and the Hornhead are another pair of characters who have a long history of buddying-up in the comics. Peter Parker and Matt Murdock are two of the MU's more streetwise, urban heroes and so they often crossover onto each other's turf. If Marvel's movie and TV divisions could coordinate, this would be easy to arrange in the movies as well. For instance, Daredevil's investigations could lead him to Queens, or Spidey's heroics could send him to Hell's Kitchen. Much like the Fantastic Four, then, the best way to introduce Daredevil into Marvel's movies would be to include him in a future Spider-Man film. And hopefully he'd bring his nemesis Wilson Fisk along for the ride, as Kingpin and Spidey have their own fierce rivalry in the comics. Plus, Vincent D'Onofrio has said he would jump at the chance. Miles Morales The character it would make the most sense for Spider-Man to team up with at some point in the future, though, has to be... Spider-Man! Since replacing Peter Parker as the amazing webslinger in Marvel's Ultimate universe in 2011, Miles Morales has grown into a fan favourite hero, leading to many calling for him to enter the MCU. While we do have an animated movie starring Dope's Shameik Moore coming next year, that's not quite the same as seeing Miles sharing the screen with Peter. Thankfully, this isn't totally off the cards. There was even an oblique reference to the character in Spider-Man: Homecoming, when Donald Glover's Aaron Davis mentioned his nephew while talking to Spidey. Comic book fans will know that he was referring to Miles. Of course, this is miles (heh) away from the character actually appearing in the movies - Marvel would have to get Sony's approval, after all - but it does confirm that Morales is out there somewhere, as supported by statements from Kevin Feige. Assuming Sony aren't looking to use Miles in their upcoming Spider-Man Villain Movie Universe (or whatever it is), Marvel could be in the clear to make use of the teen hero. It might be messing with history to introduce Miles while Peter is himself still just a kid, but he simply means too much to people to keep him out of the MCU for long.
