8 Dead Comic Book Movie Superheroes That Need To Be Revived

With tales of heroism, there are casualties and those who sacrifice themselves for the greater good. Yeah, it sucks for fans when their favorite heroes die, but sometimes it's a necessary evil in a comic book movie. For storyline purposes, though, it's often best to leave these characters dead and buried. Otherwise, it feels like a cheap copout and destroys the finality of death. No one wants comic book movies to become like soapies where you know everyone will rise up from the ashes again and become zombies like the Forresters and DiMeras. That said, there are instances where heroes should be brought back to life. Maybe their arc wasn't fully explored, or a resurrection would make sense in the context of things - whichever way, there are several exceptions to the rule. Keeping this in mind, we've looked at a host of dead comic book movie characters that we'd like to see back on the big screen. We're obviously going deep into spoiler territory here, so consider this your fair warning. Also, please note that we're not including Superman on this list, because everyone knows he'll return in Justice League. As always, we love hearing from you. Quicksilver This one is a tad bit tricky, because Quicksilver is dead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) but alive and well in Fox's X-Men universe. It's a complicated matter involving rights and all that other boring stuff which no one cares about, but the fact is Pietro Maximoff was a goner after Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron. It sucks, too, because Aaron Taylor-Johnson is a supremely talented actor and never got to show his full range in the MCU. While his sacrifice was undoubtedly the biggest of them all, his emo twin, Wanda (Scarlet Witch), got a free pass at survival - even if Elizabeth Olsen's acting talents are better suited to Inhumans than a cinematic universe, but whatever. With Evan Peters' Quicksilver being extremely popular amongst fans, it's unlikely that we'll ever see Taylor-Johnson in the role again. And it's a real shame, too, because if the MCU never had major plans for Quicksilver to begin with, they should've cast someone else and saved Taylor-Johnson for a significant part in another movie. El Diablo You might call El Diablo a villain, but we prefer to think of him as having died a hero. He sacrificed himself to save a team of worthless individuals and the entire world, so you can't really deny that he turned a corner before his untimely demise. Sure, there were a lot of things wrong with David Ayer's Suicide Squad, but El Diablo was one of the shining lights in the film (pardon the pun). Whereas every other character had a bloated or confusing arc, his remained steady as someone seeking redemption for what he'd done, and he eventually found his solace in death. But wouldn't you want to see him return in Gavin O'Connor's Suicide Squad 2? Jay Hernandez's El Diablo was as comic book-accurate as they come and he tapped into exactly what makes him tick. Using him for a one-and-done appearance doesn't do the character or the performer any justice. At the end of the day, he deserves to appear in the sequel at the very least, right? Steve Trevor While Steve Trevor plays second fiddle to Diana Prince as a hero, he made quite the impression in Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman. Not only did he show Diana that the world is a dangerous place, but he also helped her find her own hope and faith in humanity despite the odds. That's why his death hit us just as hard as Mufasa's in The Lion King. Jenkins, though, isn't closing the door on the possibility of Trevor returning in the future, saying in an interview with Fandango, "It's very hard to know which characters will be in the next movie because of the time period, so it's a big question." Actor Chris Pine, meanwhile, added, "The movie's gotta come out, and then we'll see. What about Wonder Man?" In reality, Trevor has died many times before and been resurrected in the comics countless times, so the DCEU is wise to keep its cards close to its chest with regards to Pine's return. The big question is, will Trevor make a return in Flashpoint or Wonder Woman 2? The former seems like the most likely option, but we'll have to see. Abin Sur Abin Sur is better known for his death than his life, as he's the reason that Hal Jordan is the Green Lantern. The last time we saw this character was in Martin Campbell's 2011 film, starring Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, and he was very much dead then. While Campbell's pic was meant to be the start of the DCEU, plans were soon scrapped after the less-than-stellar reception and critical mauling it received. Thus, there's still a possibility that we'll see Abin Sur again at some point. Perhaps he'll appear in Justice League in some way? The rumors that there will be a Lantern - or Lanterns - in the film aren't dying down and we're willing to wager that there'll be some sort of cameo for the Corps here. The only thing we need to know is if Jordan is already a Green Lantern in this continuity or if Warner Bros. plans to retell his origin story. Depending on that, we'll know if Abin Sur's already met his maker or if he'll still make an appearance. Yondu Yondu's death hit us pretty hard in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Next to Darth Vader's, this might be one of the most gut-wrenching losses in geek history - especially his final, heart-wrenching words to Peter Quill: "He may have been your father, boy, but he wasn't your daddy." Why don't you just take out our hearts and stomp on them, Kevin Feige?! While his loss certainly aided the story and Gunn has confirmed that this is the end of the road for Yondu, we can't help but wonder what the franchise will be like without him and his remarkable personality. Actor Michael Rooker was undoubtedly one of the standout stars in the two movies and the next film will certainly be poorer without him there. Sure, Yondu will be remembered for the hilarious Mary Poppins memes and jokes, but he should be treasured for the depth that he brought to the series as well. While Groot might be the cute one and Rocket the funny one, Yondu will always be the heart of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Jason Todd Despite the rumors that the dead Robin in the DCEU was Dick Grayson, we all know that it's actually Jason Todd and he was murdered by the Joker and his missus, Harley Quinn. Technically, we haven't seen Todd at all - apart from his spray-painted costume in the Batcave - but that doesn't mean we don't want to see his return under the guise of the Red Hood. There was a sneaky suspicion that Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck's The Batman script would've explored Todd's death and return, but those plans seem to have been canned since Matt Reeves decided to do a page-one rewrite of the movie. If the rumors of a trilogy are correct, however, it's possible that Reeves might deal with the Todd conundrum in one of his future Batman films. Nonetheless, it's a little quiet in the DCEU without the Robins running amok. They're an important part of the Batman mythos and we can't wait to see them form a part of this universe. Todd, in particular, would be a terrific addition, as he and the Bat will undeniably butt heads over his questionable methods of vigilantism. Silver Fox Let's be honest: there wasn't a lot to like about Gavin Hood's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It's probably one of the weakest entries in the X-Men franchise and destroyed many of its characters without blinking. Just ask Ryan Reynolds what he thinks of the movie and what it did to Deadpool… That said, the film didn't do too badly with its introduction of Kayla/Silver Fox to the cinematic world. Yes, it did change her mutant powers from an accelerated healing factor to manipulation and persuasion, but Lynn Collins' character had an interesting story and twist here. At least she served a purpose to the narrative, unlike Gambit's forced appearance. Unfortunately, Silver Fox was killed off and Wolverine's amnesia has prevented him from remembering her ever since. It's disappointing, too, because she's a character whose history we'd love to have explored further in another movie. Maybe she could still pop up in a Deadpool flick one day? Warriors Three Out of all the crazy things that happened in Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok, the deaths of Hogun, Volstagg, and Fandral at the hands of Hela were the most shocking. Having formed such an important part of 2011's Thor and making a worthy appearance in 2013's Thor: A Dark World, the Warriors Three played even less pivotal roles than Doug the corpse in this latest film. With such a packed movie, it should come as no surprise that there wasn't that much space for the Warriors. However, no one would've expected their only meaningful contribution to be as fodder for Hela. We don't know about you, but we'll miss these three Asgardian warriors and all the entertainment they brought along with them. Right now, it appears as if their deaths are final, especially since Zachary Levi has jumped ship and gone over to DC for David Sandberg's Shazam! - but hey, at least Jaimie Alexander's Lady Sif isn't dead, right? There's still the possibility that she could appear in the MCU again. Fingers crossed!
