Dario Argento’s horror film, Suspiria, is widely regarded as a Giallo masterpiece, so one can empathize with the disquiet that overcame cinephiles when Luca Guadagnino’s remake was first announced way back in 2015. Since then, however, the apprehension has dispersed, undoubtedly a byproduct of Guadagnino’s growth as a filmmaker recently, which culminated last month when Call Me By Your Name received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture – among other nods.

The director’s skyrocketing credibility isn’t the only thing slowly but surely winning over moviegoers, though. Just last week, Dakota Johnson, the star of Amazon Studios’ reimagining, disclosed in an interview with Elle that production on Suspiria was so intense that it sent her to therapy. Well, you know the adage, suffering sells.

To further alleviate cinephile unease, Amazon Studios has now released the below teaser poster for the pic, following their presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas earlier today. It’s simple, yet effective, and certainly has us curious to see more.

During Amazon’s luncheon, the studio also screened an extended clip from Guadagnino’s upcoming remake, which, apparently, was not a good idea. Their stomachs full, attendees were treated to a deluge of “urine, spittle, and blood” when Johnson’s character, Susie Bannion, seemed to tear a co-star into pieces telepathically. Though it’s yet to make its way online, those who’ve seen the footage call it “gruesome” and “brutal.”

Suspiria is currently slated for release sometime in Autumn, later this year, making an appearance on the summer film festival circuit a distinct possibility. The remake will see Johnson star alongside Chloë Grace Moretz, Mia Goth and Academy Award-winner Tilda Swinton, and as soon as Amazon delivers some more promotional material, we’ll be sure to let you know.
