Todd Phillips’ post-Hangover career is taking a swift turn into meatier territory with his upcoming movie, Arms And The Dudes, which has now added yet another new name to its starry line-up. Per Deadline, Ana De Armas has signed on to star alongside the recently-announced Miles Teller as his girlfriend.
For those unfamiliar with the movie, it’s based on a Rolling Stone article by Guy Lawson that revolves around the mishaps of a couple of stoners who wind up dealing weapons. Originally, Jesse Eisenberg and Shia LeBeouf were down to play the pair, until scheduling conflicts arose leaving the parts available for Oscar-nominee Jonah Hill and Teller. Also on board to produce are Scott Budnick, Mark Gordon, and Bryan Zuriff from a script by Jason Smilovic.
The movie marks another step up the industry ladder for Armas. The actress’ latest effort, Eli Roth’s Knock Knock, saw her star alongside Keanu Reeves. Next up is Roberto Duran biopic Hands Of Stone, followed by a reunion with Reeves for Daughter Of God, which is currently filming.
As mentioned, the movie is based on a true story and will find the two leading men in the roles of David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli – a couple of inexperienced arms dealers. Somehow they won a lucrative $300 million contract with the Pentagon to supply weapons to US allies in Afghanistan. By the end of the entire affair, the duo faced serious fraud charges and their lives were put in danger on more than one occasion.
It sounds like a pretty serious matter that may or may not deviate down a lighter route. With Phillips directing though it certainly seems like Arms And The Dudes won’t be a heavy international drama.
