If Captain Marvel primarily takes place in the 1990s, then Ant-Man and the Wasp is poised to roll back the years further still – all the way back to 1980, to be specific, where we’ll get an early glimpse of Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne’s relationship in sunny Argentina. And we now have three set photos to prove it.
First spotted by the UK tabloid Daily Mail (with a tip of the hat to Screen Rant), these candid pics place Michael Douglas (Pym) and Michelle Pfeiffer (Dyne) in ’80s attire, as they mosey around Marvel’s set in Atlanta. And that’s not a typo; the Georgian Capital is acting as a stand-in for Argentina, and though story details remain stowed away in the Marvel vaults, this flashback sequence will give us some insight into Hank and Janet’s history as the original pint-sized heroes.
Besides, with rumors of a return trip to the fabled Quantum Realm, Ant-Man and the Wasp won’t be lacking in eye-popping visuals come 2018.
Per Daily Mail:
Production on Ant-Man and the Wasp is expected to wrap in the coming weeks, so it shouldn’t be too much longer before we catch a glimpse of Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne as the titular, crimefighting duo. If history has taught us anything, it’s that Marvel tends to attach its previews to other MCU movies in the name of synergy – similar to how Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 heralded our first peek at Thor: Ragnarok. With that in mind, the Powers That Be will likely roll out the first preview of Ant-Man and the Wasp in and around the theatrical release of Black Panther this February.
Beyond Ragnarok, Black Panther and Marvel’s all-encompassing Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp will scurry into theaters on July 6th, 2018. The original movie took audiences by surprise with its deft combination of humor and heart, so let’s just hope Peyton Reed and his team will be able to avoid the sophomore slump next year.
