Ant-Man Will Reportedly Include Spider-Man Easter Eggs

When Edgar Wright abruptly abandoned Marvel's Ant-Man last year, the script went through several big rewrites - at the hands of Adam McKay, Gabrial Ferrari, Andrew Barrer and the titular bite-sized Avenger himself, Paul Rudd. While we were initially told that those "giant" rewrites happened to tweak the film and conform it to Marvel's vision, we're now hearing that they could have also been made to include references to another upcoming Avenger: Spider-Man.

When Edgar Wright abruptly abandoned Marvel’s Ant-Man last year, the script went through several big rewrites – at the hands of Adam McKay, Gabrial Ferrari, Andrew Barrer and the titular bite-sized Avenger himself, Paul Rudd. While we were initially told that those “giant” rewrites happened to tweak the film and conform it to Marvel’s vision, we’re now hearing that they could have also been made to include references to another upcoming Avenger: Spider-Man.

That’s right, rumor has it that Spider-Man will be the focus of several Easter eggs in Ant-Man. The report comes from Latino-Review, who state that Ant-Man will plant “plenty of seeds” to usher in the web crawler’s debut MCU appearance in Captain America: Civil War next year. This will help bring Spidey back to the big screen without another retread of his origin story, and show that, by the time Scott Lang suits up as Ant-Man, Peter Parker is already swinging around New York City as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Those Easter eggs (which Latino-Review stresses are still unconfirmed) will reportedly include “lots of talk/references” to both Spider-Man and OsCorp. Corey Stoll, who plays villainous businessman Darren Cross, will try to sell his size-changing Yellowjacket armor to other corporations and organizations within the MCU: The Ten Rings (the Mandarin-led group that abducted Tony Stark in Iron Man), Roxxon (a corporation namedropped in all three Iron Man films, Daredevil and Agent Carter) and OsCorp, which is of course run by Spider-Man nemesis Norman Osborn (who may or may not be played by Matthew McConaughey).

The validity of this rumor is certainly up for debate, especially when you consider the fact that Ant-Man was filming before the Sony/Marvel deal to include Spidey in the MCU was finalized. Still, there’s no denying that this would be incredibly exciting (and right up Marvel’s ever-teasing alley). Plus, is there any better film to tease one bug-themed superhero than in Ant-Man? I don’t think so…

We’ll find out whether this rumor is true or not when Ant-Man arrives on July 27th, 2015.
