Michael Pena, star of End of Watch and Marvel’s Ant-Man, has agreed terms to join The Bringing, a new horror-thriller that’s entered pre-production over at Columbia Pictures and Sony.

Sherlock alum Jeremy Lovering is reportedly circling the director’s chair, chronicling the story of Elisa Lam, a woman who was found dead on the rooftop of the Cecil Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles under suspicious circumstances. Pena is on board to play the man tasked with unravelling that mystery, and considering that CCTV footage of Elisa’s perplexing death – whose body was uncovered in a water tank – later went viral, we don’t envy him.

Brandon and Phillip Murphy are the brains behind the script, which wound up on Hollywood’s infamous Black List two years ago. It’s now been repackaged and placed firmly on the fast-track at Sony, with the studio now on the hunt for co-stars to join Michael Pena for this most unnerving story. Casting the role of Elisa Lam will take top priority, no doubt.

Beyond Oscar-tipped drama Collateral Beauty, Pena has clinched two voice roles across My Little Pony: The Movie and The LEGO Ninjago Movie. There’s also confirmation that he’ll reprise his scene-stealing role of Luis in Ant-Man and the Wasp. We’ll be keeping tabs on that one as the Marvel sequel enters production early next year.

No word yet on when The Bringing will scurry before the cameras, though.
