Marvel has taken a lot of crap over the years about its incredibly shrinking superhero (“so he just gets really small?”), but the studio is setting the record straight on just how cool the comic-book character’s miniaturizing technology can be. In the first clip from Ant-Man, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) tests out his new suit for seemingly the first time, only to get the surprise of his life when merely standing in a bathtub turns into a hair-raising fight to stay alive.
That we hear Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) dryly communicating with Scott over some sort of suit-contained radio suggests that this scene takes place after Scott steals the Ant-Man armor but before Hank recruits him to actual don the costume and fight for good.

With Ant-Man hitting theaters next month, I’m going to do my best to stay away from the rest of the promo material. Marvel doesn’t seem to be holding that many surprises up its sleeve for audiences to discover in theaters, and it would be a real shame to get the inventive visuals and plot spoiled by a host of future clips. That said, the above look at the movie is certainly an amusing one that simultaneously demonstrates Peyton Reed’s handle on staging a cool action sequence.
Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena and Bobby Cannavale all star in Ant-Man, which opens July 17.
The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man.” Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
Marvel’s “Ant-Man” stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip “Ti” Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale, Jordi Mollà as Castillo and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s “Ant-Man” delivers a high-stakes, tension-filled adventure on July 17, 2015.
