Arnold Schwarzenegger Thinks Terminator 5 Will Start Filming In January 2014

Hot off the news that Paramount will be distributing Terminator 5, now we’re hearing from star Arnold Schwarzenegger that the film may be shooting as soon as January 2014. He also confirmed that he’ll be reprising his role as the titular robot.

Check out what the actor told Arnold Fans, via Coming Soon, below:

I’m very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star AS the Terminator, which we start shooting in January and I’m also going to do King Conan – to play that role and also to do another Twins movie. So I feel very proud of that. I feel very happy and I’m looking forward to doing those films.

Sounds good, right? Everything seems to be moving along smoothly except for the fact that the film is still without a director. That being said, I’m sure there are people lining up outside the door to take a shot at this beloved franchise.

Also, it’s important to remember that Arnie’s return to the big screen back in January, The Last Stand, wasn’t that well received. Personally, I enjoyed it but critics didn’t love it and neither did the general public. This, of course, begs the question: how eager are people for more Schwarzenegger?

I think with Terminator 5, it will be the franchise name that draws people in, more than its star. Sure, Arnold is still great and all but he’s nothing like he was back in the 80s and admittedly, he is a bit washed up. The novelty of seeing him on screen again in The Last Stand only lasted so long and the reason I enjoyed the film was due to more than just his presence.

Either way, it should be interesting to see not only when Terminator 5 gets off the ground but also if people still care to see it. What do you think?

If they can make it a sequel to the second movie I think fans will flock to it.

  • Nathan Falldorf

Arnold is no longer an intimidating force. He was perfect for the role a long time ago. Now unfortunately his time is over. I would only be disappointed seeing him reprise the role. Its sad to say but I think I would rather have a puppet or CGI version of him and have him do voice overs.

  • Stella

I believe that terminator can be acted only by Arnold. He is old but this doesn’t mean that can’t act well the movie.I don’t think someone else can play so good the terminator as Arnold.

    • Brett Wolfe

“Terminator 4″ would have been a fine film, had it not been for it’s director, and the fact that it was shot for a PG-13 rating. Nonetheless, it still grossed bank despite the public fully-knowing there was no Arnold. Also, Sarah Connor Chronicles is an honorable mention. Also, let’s not forget Robert Patrick and Kristanna Loken’s fine performances as Terminators, though they had the benefit of starring alongside him. Summer Glau did a good job playing a female T-800 as well. I’m not saying Arnold shouldn’t hold an active part in the film. I’m just saying, the franchise can clearer survive without him.

      • N.rod

I wish The sarah Connor Chronicles didn’t get cancelled. It was just getting reall interesting and intense.
But I’am pumped for Arnold to do another Terminator and Conan!

    • Natelie Rey

I agree, Terminator is just arnold’s thing. no matter how old he is. With a good story you can bring him back in game. he can still make it up to Terminator 10.

and we will pretend that Terminator 4 was never made. :-)

    • driko

time to move on..arnie is too old,he has already made his mark in hollywood;why be be greedy, let him let somebody else shine for a change.

  • Mark Chisholm

Terminator 5 – Rise of the Geriatrics. Hmmm. Will the Terminator be as intimidating scooting along with a zimmer frame? I think not.

    • Brett Wolfe

It will come with a rascal as a “built-in” feature.

  • Guest

Only way they can do this….is doing a distressed Terminator not fresh off assembly line. That way Arnold can do his acting and do the part well. Brand new Terminator no…older a bit damaged…Yes he can do it.

  • Zima Sanfilippo

this is ridiculous. i was hoping he’d return to the franchise, but not to THIS role. it just makes no sense whatsoever. why would Skynet make an old-looking Terminator? and if they’ll cover up his age with CGI, why get Arnold at all? CGI all the way worked fine in the last film. the only way for Arnold to be relevant in a Terminator movie is to play an aging human character. an engineer, or creator of the Terminator line or something.

    • JoeDisqus56

the terminators look human to avoid being spotted. There’s no reason skynet wouldn’t make an old looking one. It makes more sense than making them all the same age.

      • Zima Sanfilippo

Perhaps. But not like Arnold! Because at this stage Arnold would NEVER blend-in and pass for a regular old man. He stuck out like a sore thumb back when he was younger, but making a robot to look like him now would be quite counterproductive and ridiculous. He is not supposed to be a scarecrow to intimidate people, but blend in, as you noted yourself. Well, Arnold with his combination of old age and excellent form wouldn’t blend in at all! Also, come to think of it, making terminators of different age but with exactly same facial features is also stupid, don’t you think?

        • JoeDisqus56

it’s fine, maybe it’s hard for them to make different facial features so they don’t have infinite variety. It’s a terminator movie, don’t overthink it.

    • dycoss

Pay attention! The 600 series had rubber skin. We spotted them easy. But these are new. They look human. Sweat, bad breath, wrinkles, sunspots, everything.

      • Sean Torres

i forgot classic line right there…with all the drone crap i keep hearing “Hunter-Killers. Patrol machines built in automated factories. Most of us were rounded up, put in camps for orderly disposal.”

  • Brett Wolfe

Yeah, I gotta say, I was more excited about the prequel idea, with him playing the protector of the Connor family, and that ultimately being the reason why he was chosen as the face of the T-800.

  • muhammad

wow T5, what can I say Big arnie is fine with the t800 suit, however I am sure that skynet made other prototypes not just to go back to the future or kill connor. may be they wanted to rule the galaxy!! ever thought of that. just think about it, if skynet just took micro seconds the figure out to destroy the entire human race what else could of it done within timelapse of all the movies and incidents. universal domination. did they? wheres the technologies ships etc.. they are robots so atmospheric changes shouldn’t be much problem unless they have issues with heavy gravitational pulls/pushes which they could compensate by building different robots different metals composites etc come on people!!!

  • salmmus

It wouldn’t be the same without him. You’d be surprised what they can do in the movie world. He won’t look much different. As for the storyline, there is plenty that can be done to make a great story. Hopefully, they carry the T2 style of movie and bring new excitement.

  • Jim Dawkins

Well Im glad he is the terminator, but geez how long can you drag out this story.

  • Dani Ilges

this is gonna be epic i know i looooved him in Expendables 2 he was beast

  • Redoran

    I vood see it.

  • rickrude22

    I can’t wait!

  • Ronald Paup

Arnold can still get into better shape than any of you at 65! YOUR ALL JUST FULL OF CHIT! Wait, this will be the best movie of the franchise!

  • Seth

He should play the guy the t101 was based on. That would be cool.

  • Seth

    i mean 800 or whatever

  • Brian Ross

I bet its gonna be a prequel. And explain why they choose Arnold as their base for the terminators. Maybe he did something in the 60s-70,s as an old man which he is now and they respected him enough to make the terminators after a younger version than they got to see… Or something along those lines… it can’t be him as main terminator? It just can’t? right? he was wearing so much make up for terminator 3 I don’t think its even possible. Plus a prequel sounds right so they don’t have to recast the conners cuz the original actors don’t wanna do it because they are to busy not doing any movies… ever.

  • Guest1

I’m more excited about the fact that he said he’ll be doing a King Conan movie. It’s about damned time.

  • xristosdomini

… I’m glad I’m not the only person that enjoyed The Last Stand…

  • disqustang

After he pardoned, as departing governor, the murderer who happened to be the son of one of his Sacramento politician cronies, this Arnold fan will never drop another dime to see him in even a community theater play.

Instead of dragging it out ,they need to tell the story and let it end. T2 gave us the impression that things were going to build up and end. With World War and nukes. T3 told the story of the nukes. .. T4 ? T5 should have flashback to Nukes and the destruction similar filmed as in T2 and scarier more destructive. Would Love to see the original cast together and possibly a death scene for Linda Hamilton. Maybe she can get in shape somehow for the part. Not to be insulting to her.I,m not the slim/agile youthful bundle of muscle i once was either. Film man’s war with the machines.Tell the story and give it a great ending.

  • Jimhad

let it fucking end. T2 should’ve been the end.

  • Skynet Watches

    Dang, guys, age discriminate much?

  • abcdefgqwerty

They just messed up all the terminators so who really cares how they want to cash in or do with these now. A lot of people will see it and say this or that regardless of if it sucks or not just because its called terminator. In reality they should have stopped at T2. If they made a T3 it should have been the future war zone the first two movies showed us and T4 sucked did not do that. So its just a mess at this point. T2 will always be the height of this series.

  • Melchor

He did a great job with body bulding but he knew when it was time to move on, he should do the same with making films. His time has already passed.

  • D.B. Cooper

Arnold can still play THE Terminator, but the story needs to be fixed up. People will line up if you could get cameos by other stars, especially Robert Patrick as the T1000′s designer. I would also like to see Summer Glau play either a cyborg or her human version.
