It’s going on six years since Sam Levinson last stepped behind the lens for Another Happy Day, but the actor-writer-director has spent the past few months piecing together his sophomore effort: Assassination Nation.
Following up on the casting of Suki Waterhouse, Odessa Young, Hari Nef and R&B musician Abra, we now have confirmation that Bella Thorne, Maude Apatow, Bill Skarsgard, Joel McHale, and Colman Domingo have all closed deals to star. Little is currently known about how each newcomer will factor into Levinson’s techno-thriller, but with filming set to commence this spring in Louisiana, we fully expect to learn more sooner rather than later.
As for the plot itself, an early logline reveals that Assassination Nation orbits around “four teenage girls in a small suburb who become the focus of unwanted, worldwide media attention after their personal information is leaked by an anonymous hacker.”
That’s not exactly a synopsis to set the Internet alight, though we assume four of those aforementioned cast members will be subjected to some form of digital harassment come 2018. Whether that sensitive information falls into the hands of this so-called Assassination Nation, or Sam Levinson’s drama involves our four teenage leads seeking out an underground ring to enact revenge on the anonymous hacker, remains to be seen.
Assassination Nation is without a release date to call its own for the time being. However, the cameras will start rolling sometime this spring, which likely places Sam Levinson’s new thriller on course for a launch in early 2018.
