Assassin’s Creed Featurette: Michael Fassbender’s Distant Past Comes Calling

Michael Fassbender's distant past comes calling in new featurette for December's live-action Assassin's Creed movie.

Your destiny is in your blood, or so says the most recent poster for Assassin’s Creed, Justin Kurzel’s live-action historical actioner based on the video game juggernaut of the same name.

Building on that momentum, Ubisoft has now premiered the latest featurette for the December release, this time taking a deep dive into the lore underpinning Kurzel’s video game movie. We’ve seen the bat-shit insane stunts, and we’ve been introduced to Callum Lynch/Aguilar de Nerha, the two characters to be portrayed by Michael Fassbender – now, it’s time for a spot of world building.

Having been involved in the Assassin’s Creed movie from the get-go, there’s also an interview with Fassbender himself, who drums up the franchise’s cinematic credentials. Not only will the X-Men stalwart headline the cast – one which includes Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons, to name but two – but Fassbender is attached to produce and will even star in the sequel, should the stars align.

“What you’re about to see, hear and feel are the memory of your ancestor.” Assassin’s Creed slinks into theaters on December 21 and will herald the advent of a newfound movie franchise at Ubisoft and New Regency. If both parties were to green light a follow-up, Justin Kurzel just recently entertained the idea of shifting the action over to a new era altogether, much like how each AC title is rooted in a different epoch.

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
