New Avengers 4 Theory May Reveal Which Hero Will Die Next

Though no one expects all of those deaths at the end of Infinity War to stick, that doesn't mean there won't be more tragic losses to come in next year's Avengers 4. If you remember, the core six heroes survived Thanos' finger snap alongside a few others such as War Machine, Okoye and Rocket Raccoon, the only one of the Guardians of the Galaxy to make it out alive.

Though no one expects all of those deaths at the end of Infinity War to stick, that doesn’t mean there won’t be more tragic losses to come in next year’s Avengers 4. If you remember, the core six heroes survived Thanos’ finger snap alongside a few others such as War Machine, Okoye and Rocket Raccoon, the only one of the Guardians of the Galaxy to make it out alive.

But will he manage to do the same in Avengers 4? That remains to be seen, but a new fan theory suggests we should be worried for the fate of the trash panda. According to Reddit user @Someguyonreddit2001, the statuses of the Guardians may be reversed in the next movie with the other cosmic heroes returning to life and Rocket making the ultimate sacrifice.

A big reason this could be, the fan argues, is that it would suit his character arc. Back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Yondu points out that Rocket and him are the same. Peter’s daddy, of course, sacrificed himself to save Quill at the end of that film. Likewise, the usually irascible Rocket was much more mature in Infinity War as he opened up to Thor about the possibility of losing his friends.

There’s also the moment in IW when Star-Lord taunts Rocket by saying that the only reason he’s accompanying Thor to Nidavellir is because it’s the opposite direction from Thanos. Rocket’s always had that impulse for self-preservation, much like Yondu points out, so it would make for an emotional ending if he became a true hero by giving up his life for his loved ones in A4.

There’s also a belief amongst fans that the original six Avengers could sacrifice themselves to bring back the next generation of heroes who died in IW. If we’re on the right track with that one, then Rocket’s death could fit into that as well. He’d die, but the rest of the Guardians would survive and go on to star in Vol. 3. We’re pretty confident that Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana will reappear in the threequel, but nothing so far has said that Bradley Cooper will necessarily lend his tones to the movie.
