Avengers: Infinity War Director Confirms Valkyrie’s Fate

Avengers: Infinity War starts as it means to go on, as the opening scene sets the tone for lots of death and destruction to come. We begin with Thanos' attack on the Asgardian refugee ship, with it seeming like all of Thor's people on board had lost their lives to the Mad Titan. However, one important character last seen on the vessel in Thor: Ragnarok is nowhere to be found: Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie.

Though the film itself offers no explanation for her absence, leaving fans to worry if the popular heroine has already kicked the bucket, it turns out that everything is alright. Infinity War co-director Joe Russo has allegedly confirmed that Valkyrie managed to survive Thanos’ assault. We only have his words second-hand, however, as this reveal comes from a talk Russo gave at his old high school in Iowa.

One of the students in attendance took to Reddit to confirm that the director had some good news concerning Thompson’s character. “He did confirm that Valkyrie lived,” said the Redditor, though he didn’t reveal exactly how. Russo teased that some other Asgardians had escaped via “escape pods,” so perhaps Valkyrie did the same thing. Though it doesn’t seem like her to shy away from a fight.

On the other hand, we still don’t know what happened to Korg, the loveable Kronan who was also last seen on the ship at the end of Thor: Ragnarok. The Redditor revealed that they enquired about the character’s fate, but Russo wouldn’t be budged on what happened to him. Apparently, he “wasn’t willing to say” anything on the topic. Quite why he can reveal Valkyrie’s fate but not Korg’s, we don’t know, but it does worry us a bit.

Tell us, what do you think happened to Valkyrie and Korg prior to the events of Avengers: Infinity War? Let us know your theories in the comments section down below.
