Avengers: Infinity War May Feature A Battle Scene With 40 Heroes

Anthony Mackie has teased this weekend that Avengers: Infinity War features a massive battle scene with 40 superheroes in it.

Who lives, who dies?

That’s the million-dollar question currently lingering over Avengers: Infinity War, Joe and Anthony Russo’s crossover that’s not so much a movie as it is a cinematic event. It’s also the first chapter in a two-part story, given the so-far untitled Avengers 4 is poised to put a bow on the whole Thanos saga – along with the current iteration of the MCU, if Kevin Feige is to be believed – come 2019.

And when it does, the studio’s character roster will be dramatically different to the one that’s helped define the Marvel Cinematic Universe hitherto. Speaking of which, if there’s another element of Infinity War that continues to fuel debate online, it’s who exactly we can expect to see in the film. At this point, it really does sound like everyone who’s still breathing in the MCU will be involved and if Anthony Mackie, who plays the Falcon, is to be believed, one battle scene in particular may feature a whopping 40 superheroes.

Speaking today at Ace Comic Con in Glendale, Arizona, along with co-stars Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan, the actor discussed what it was like making Avengers: Infinity War and its currently untitled sequel, and in doing so, revealed this interesting little nugget:

“There was one day we were on set and were doing this scene that’s in the trailer where we’re all running to battle,” Mackie said. “You know, all of us are on set and it’s like forty superheroes.”

Evans chimed in as well, saying the following about the scene in question:

“That day was really fun, I know the day you’re talking about. That day was [snickers]…you’ll see. It was a great day with a lot of great people.”

We should note that it’s a bit unclear if Mackie is implying that all 40 superheroes show up in the same scene, or they were just all on set that day, perhaps filming different things. What is clear, though, is that Avengers: Infinity War is going to be an absolutely massive movie, in every sense of the word. After all, this isn’t the first time we’ve been teased with epic battle scenes and with so many characters already confirmed for the pic, you can bet that there will be some truly larger than life moments that will leave fans smiling from ear to ear.

Get ready, folks, because Avengers: Infinity War will shake the MCU down to its very foundations on May 4th, before Avengers 4 ushers in a whole new era in 2019. Rumor has it that the latter tentpole will wander down the route of hard sci-fi (read: time travel, alternate realities…that kinda’ thing), though a newly-unveiled photo suggests otherwise. We will have answers soon, though, as Infinity War is only four months away.
