Not too long ago, we brought you a list of the year's most pirated TV shows. It was populated with many of the usual suspects, including, but not limited to, Westworld, The Flash and Game of Thrones. Now, following up on that, we've got the list for 2016's most pirated movies and in a similar fashion, it's full of all the films you'd expect to see on there.

Taking the number one spot is what many consider to be the year’s biggest hit, Deadpool. Fox’s R-rated superhero romp smashed through the box office, taking in a whopping $738 million and proving that even illegal downloads couldn’t stop the Merc with a Mouth’s incredible run. The same can be said about the second and third films on the list as well, with those spots being taken up by Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War, respectively.

“Pirated copies Deadpool first appeared early February triggering millions of downloads during the months that followed,” Torrent Freak reports. “Even today, thousands of people are still actively sharing it.”

Rounding out the top five are one of 2015’s biggest successes, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the wholly disappointing X-Men: Apocalypse.

  1. Deadpool
  2. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice
  3. Captain America: Civil War
  4. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
  5. X-Men: Apocalypse
  6. Warcraft
  7. Independence Day: Resurgence
  8. Suicide Squad
  9. Finding Dory
  10. The Revenant

While it’s a bit surprising to see two films from last year on the list, it does make some sense given that they were both December releases. Plus, there’s also the fact that the past 12 months have been pretty weak in terms of new titles, with a lot more movies disappointing than impressing. Still, it is kind of surprising that films like Zootopia and Doctor Strange didn’t make the cut, don’t you think?
