Bella Heathcote And Emma Watson Wanted For The Secret Service

Matthew Vaughn's upcoming adaptation of Mark Millar's comic book, The Secret Service, is coming together rather nicely. According to Variety, newcomer Taron Egerton has snagged the lead role, that of a "young street thug who is turned into a super spy." He'll join the already cast Colin Firth, who will play the boy's uncle and Michael Caine, who will be in charge of the spy organization.

Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic book, The Secret Service, is coming together rather nicely. According to Variety, newcomer Taron Egerton has snagged the lead role, that of a “young street thug who is turned into a super spy.” He’ll join the already cast Colin Firth, who will play the boy’s uncle and Michael Caine, who will be in charge of the spy organization.

Most of the major male roles have been filled at this point but what about the female lead? Well, Vaughn is currently looking at Emma Watson and Bella Heathcote, two very talented young actresses. No word on which one is the frontrunner but both are being considered for the part.

For those unfamiliar with Millar’s comic, it tells the story of “a kid who is taken under the wing of his super spy uncle, who teaches him how to be the best spy he can be.” And for those unfamiliar with Millar himself (even though you should know the name by this point), he’s the guy behind comics like Wanted and Kick-Ass, he also oversees all of 20th Century Fox’s comic book properties. So ya, he’s kind of a big deal these days.

As for the two leading ladies who are competing against each other, my vote is for Emma Watson. I think she’s an incredible actress and I am so pleased to see her branching out lately into so many fascinating roles. She’s completely shed her Harry Potter image and has become one of Hollywood’s most sought after talents, and deservedly so. Not that Heathcote isn’t talented, but I love Emma Watson and am behind her in everything she does.

With a script co-written by frequent collaborator Jane Goldman, Vaughn hopes to shoot the film this Fall with a November 14th, 2014 release date in mind.

Tell us, who would you rather see in The Secret Service? Emma Watson or Bella Heathcote?
