The 23rd film in the James Bond franchise hits theaters next year, and the cast will boast a brand new Q – played by Ben Whishaw.

Director Sam Mendes has brought Whishaw on to re-invent the timeless character. Although Whishaw is younger than fans of the franchise might have expected, his performances in projects such as Bright Star, Perfume, and Layer Cake make him a great addition to the film and a solid fit for the iconic role.

Until recently, the studio has been keeping tight-lipped on Whishaw’s role in the project, but they have now confirmed rumors that he will take on the classic character. The return of Q means that some more light additions to the plot may be in store, an element that has been missing from the last two takes of Bond.

Skyfall is currently in production and stars Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Judi Dench, Albert Finney, Berenice Malohe, and Naomie Harris.
