Jason Voorhees Friday the 13th

Blumhouse Wants To Reboot Friday The 13th

Right now, I think there has to be at least one - if not several - horror franchises that Blumhouse Productions have cooked up in recent memory that resonate with any one of us. Personally, I'll eat up anything with "Sinister" or "The Purge" in the title, but there's so much to choose from amongst such an impressive catalog.

Of course, those behind the camera are fans just like you or I, and they also have wishlists of their own. Granted, the fine folks at Blumhouse will soon be able to cross off Halloween before long, but there’s yet another they hope to one day lay claim to: Friday the 13th.

In fact, Jason Blum himself had this to say in a recent chat with CinePop:

“Besides Halloween? You know, I really wanted to do Friday the 13th. I would love to do that movie. Maybe someday we’ll get do to that one.”

If this were to come to fruition, it’d probably sit well with many Jason Voorhees diehards. After seeing the last attempt at a re-reboot get cancelled, fans have understandably been down in the dumps. But if you’d expect anybody to get the formula right, it’d most definitely be Blumhouse.

Still, it can’t be ignored that the deck is stacked against them. I mean, not only is the film franchise currently in a state of legal limbo, but Blumhouse Productions are allied with Universal, and Friday the 13th‘s rights are set to soon revert back to New Line/Warner Bros. if the best case scenario pans out. But one can still dream, right?

Tell us, would you like to see Jason Blum take a stab at the franchise? Let us know by dropping a comment in the usual place.
