Just like all the other 24 James Bond films before it, the embryonic and so-far untitled Bond 25 will have its identity shaped by two very distinct factors: its title and theme song.
In keeping with tradition, MGM would typically reveal those two key Bond ingredients in the build-up to release, though it’s far too early to expect any firm details on what the studio is planning for 007’s next big-screen outing. That being said, and after a long saga of ‘will he, won’t he?’, Daniel Craig put the rumors to bed earlier this month by announcing his return for Bond 25, which will be remembered as his last.
Yes, following a multi-picture contract spanning Casino Royale, the largely forgettable Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre, Craig’s time wielding the license to kill is coming to an end, and the actor has made it his mission to go out on a high. Indeed, if the latest Bond-related tidbit is to be believed, Daniel Craig’s swan song will be scored by Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé.
First reported by British tabloid Daily Star, and relayed to us by way of Screen Rant, it’s worth taking this rumor with a pinch of salt. Citing sources close to Beyoncé herself, the Daily Star is asserting that the award-winning musician and actress is about to follow in the footsteps of Adele and board a James Bond film.
This is the only project she is remotely interested in right now. The two spoke before Bey’s first meeting with film bosses and Adele told her how co-writing and performing a Bond theme gave her an amazing career hike. Not many of the themes have been as successful – but there are tens of millions of Beyoncé fans out there.
The UK press has a notoriously spotty track record when it comes to James Bond, so treat this unfounded report as just that. There’s also the small matter of Jon Favreau’s live-action rendition of The Lion King, which has Beyoncé in the role of Nala. Will the renown superstar find time in her schedule to crank out a movie theme song? Time will tell.
The as-yet-untitled Bond 25 has a release date of November 8th, 2019. Other than that, the director shortlist has purportedly been whittled down to three: Yann Demange, Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049), and David MacKenzie.
