Brad Bird “Starting To Write” The Incredibles 2 For Pixar

It's been an awfully long time since we last caught wind on any developments relating to Pixar's beloved superpowered family -- more than a year, in fact. This is largely due to Brad Bird's integral role at Pixar, which has seen the director oversee much of the studio's animations since The Incredibles first released back in 2004. Now, more than a decade later, it seems it's almost time for the filmmaker to return to oversee the Parr family, as Bird revealed that he is now "just starting to write" The Incredibles 2 now that his work on Tomorrowland is all but complete.

It’s been an awfully long time since we last caught wind on any developments relating to Pixar’s beloved superpowered family – more than a year, in fact. This is largely due to Brad Bird’s integral role at Pixar, which has seen the director oversee much of the studio’s animations since The Incredibles first released back in 2004. Now, more than a decade later, it seems it’s almost time for the filmmaker to return to oversee the Parr family, as Bird revealed to NPR that he is “just starting to write” The Incredibles 2 now that his work on Tomorrowland is all but complete.

During the interview, the director acknowledged the extensive interlude between the two films, revealing that the follow-up has been “percolating” for some time. What exactly he is referring to remains unclear — Script rewrites? Story changes? — though news that the wheels are finally beginning to turn will be music to the ears of the Pixar faithful.

From what we gather, the studio is likely to recall the entire Parr family to lend their vocal chords once more for the animated sequel, and more recently Samuel L. Jackson himself revealed that Frozone will star in The Incredibles 2 in some capacity despite rumors to the contrary.

Much digital ink has been spilled about Pixar’s recent tendency to revisit existing properties and mine for sequels, as opposed to pushing the animated envelope with new ideas, but The Incredibles remains one of the studio’s greatest projects even to this day, and the fact that eleven years have lapsed since the release of the original, now seems like a good a time as any to reintroduce audiences to the superpowered family.

The Incredibles 2 is likely to enter production later this year or early next year. No word yet on a release window for the animated sequel, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
