Well, it was just a matter of time before this happened, right? Given how successful John Wick: Chapter 2 is proving to be, both with critics and at the box office, everyone wants to get in on the fun and Deadline is now reporting that Amblin Partners has won an auction for Ruthless, John Swetnam’s spec script that’s said to be a female-led vehicle in the vein of Lionsgate’s newest action franchise.
San Andreas‘ Brad Peyton is currently attached to direct while Weimaraner Republic Pictures partners and The Shallows producers Matti Leshem and Lynn Harris are set to produce along with Tripp Vinson and Jeff Fierson. No one has been cast just yet, but apparently several high profile actresses are interested, and it’s not hard to see why.
We haven’t heard who may be in contention for the part, but we could definitely see someone like Ruby Rose (who was in John Wick: Chapter 2 as well) or Adrianne Palicki really knocking it out of the park here. Then again, now that Milla Jovovich’s done with Resident Evil, she could also be a solid choice to lead this sure to be action-packed franchise. Really, there are a number of great actresses who could do well here, and we’re excited to see who the role ends up going to.
According to Deadline, the plot of Ruthless will see a “legendary retired assassin, diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, return to the life she left behind and complete one final job in order to secure a future for her young daughter.” Of course, expect plenty of twists and turns along the way, and lots and lots of violence.
That’s all we’ve got to go on for now, but until we hear more, feel free to take to the comments section down below and tell us who you’d like to see in the lead role of Ruthless.
