Deadline is reporting today that Brad Pitt is set to star in David Michôd’s The Operators, which will be backed by the actor’s Plan B production company, along with New Regency and RatPac Entertainment.
Based on Michael Hastings’ novel of the same name, the film will tell the story of the rise and fall of Gen. Stanley McChrystal, “the commanding general of international and U.S. forces in Afghanistan.” It will also take a look at the “backrooms and politics behind the war, and the high-stake maneuvers and the political firestorm that shook the country.”
While I’m only somewhat familiar with McChrystal and his story, I’m definitely looking forward to The Operators. Based on what I’ve heard about the novel, it sounds like pretty compelling material that would make for an excellent film. Not only that, but Michôd’s directorial debut, Animal Kingdom, was a taut, smart thriller with excellent performances. His next film, The Rover, looks quite exciting as well.
Now, with an A-list actor on board for what will be his third feature behind the camera, it looks like the director is set to have another hit on his hands. Pitt is known for being pretty picky when it comes to choosing his projects, so if he’s putting his support behind The Operators, you can bet that it’s something special.
Michôd’s is currently gearing up to release The Rover this June and it looks like The Operators will be his next project, though we don’t know exactly when it will shoot. We also don’t have any additional casting details at this time, but with Pitt now on board, I’m sure that the film will draw in some strong talent to support him.
As always, we’ll keep you posted when we hear more. For now though, tell us, are you excited to see Brad Pitt leading The Operators?
