Amid the hullabaloo surrounding Justice League‘s production woes, one thing became immediately clear: Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon’s DC ensemble movie included a post-credits scene involving Lex Luthor and Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke.
Such was the excitement surrounding Justice League‘s after-credits sting that Warner Bros. quietly announced plans for a full-blown spinoff movie for Deathstroke with Gareth Evans (The Raid) at the helm.
There’s been nary a mention of that anti-hero project in quite some time, but as the DC community braces for what should be a pretty incredible San Diego Comic-Con, Zack Snyder has shared yet another behind-the-scenes pic from Justice League, which draws our attention to the post-credits scene shot on Lex Luthor’s luxurious yacht.
In honor of Throwback Thursday, here’s the latest from Snyder’s social media feed (h/t Heroic Hollywood):
It’s this same scene that sparked interest in a Legion of Doom movie, too, though it seems Warner Bros. is conscious of taking one DCEU film at a time following the reconfiguration of its superhero franchise.
There are currently three films lining the studio’s slate over the next 18 months – namely Aquaman, Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984 – so it remains to be seen whether any of Warner’s SDCC showcase will be dedicated to the future of Justice League and their headline-worthy villains.
Rumor has it that WB plans to refocus its energies to standalone superhero films for the foreseeable future, which, if true, strongly suggests that any and all team-up movies have been placed on ice. As always, we’ll have to adopt a ‘wait and see’ approach as we look forward to Warner’s next steps in a post-Justice League world.
