The Budget For Avengers: Infinity War Will Blow You Away

It's no secret that Avengers: Infinity War is going to be a big film. Sorry, not big. Gigantic. Even that may be an understatement. The project is no doubt Marvel's most ambitious to date and with nearly every MCU character still breathing set to make an appearance, excitement for it is through the roof. As such, we expect the studio to be pouring a fair bit of money into the movie.

It’s no secret that Avengers: Infinity War is going to be a big film. Sorry, not big. Gigantic. Even that may be an understatement. The project is no doubt Marvel’s most ambitious to date and with nearly every MCU character still breathing set to make an appearance, excitement for it is through the roof. As such, we expect the studio to be pouring a fair bit of money into the movie.

After all, it’s guaranteed to do gangbusters at the box office and given how important it is to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole, you can bet that they’re going all out. Even with that in mind, however, the budget of Joe and Anthony Russo’s upcoming film may very well leave your jaw on the floor. While initial estimates pegged it at about $350 million, if this new report is true, it’s actually much, much higher than that.

During a recent luncheon, Dan Cathy, the co-owner of Pinewood Studios, where the project is shooting, revealed that the Atlanta location was hosting a production that boasted a $1 billion budget. While he wouldn’t say what that production was, given the fact that we know the next Avengers film is now shooting in Atlanta, it doesn’t take a genius to figure it out.

Now, before your jaw drops too far, know that this $1 billion is most likely being split between both Infinity War and its sequel. Still, that means that each movie has a budget of about $500 million, which is absolutely massive. To put things into perspective, the most expensive film to date is Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, with estimates placing its budget at $378 million once all was said and done.

So, if this report is true, then it means that Avengers: Infinity War will now be the single most expensive movie ever made. It makes sense, I suppose, given the enourmous cast of A-list stars set to feature and the very nature of the blockbuster, but still, that’s a hell of a lot of money.

Of course, Marvel probably isn’t worried in the slightest. There’s absolutely no way this film will make less than a billion at the box office, and with The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron grossing $1.5 and $1.4 billion worldwide, respectively, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to say that this one, with the inclusion of Spider-Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange and more, could hit close to $2 billion. Time will ultimately tell, but if nothing else, you can rest assured that Avengers: Infinity War will be a spectacle for the ages.
