Last week, Ryan Reynolds and 20th Century Fox served up a dose of premium Cable with the first full-blown (and profanity-filled!) trailer for Deadpool 2.
And though the Merc With a Mouth threatened to hog the limelight with his makeshift toy show, Fox’s preview was really all about Cable (AKA Nathan Summers), the one-eyed bandit who will be making his screen debut alongside fellow mutant, Domino (Zazie Beetz), later this year.
But the fun didn’t stop there, as Reynolds took to Instagram a few days ago to share a cheeky and indeed nostalgic portrait drawn up by Wade Wilson himself in honor of Brolin’s birthday. It was a typically irreverent image from ‘Pool, who harked back to Brolin’s days on The Goonies. And while it was all in good fun, one clever fan has now managed to turn the tables on the Merc, allowing Cable to take some sweet revenge.
Check it out below:
As you can see, this new image – which was actually shared by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, has Summers in the painter’s chair instead of ‘Pool, drawing up the version of Wade that we saw back in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Of course, as any fan will know, the depiction of the character in that film was nothing short of a huge joke and left a big stain on him that lasted right up until he got redemption in the 2016 reboot. As such, this photo makes for a nice bit of cheeky revenge on Cable’s part and certainly brings a smile to our face.
Said to be bracing for a round of last-minute reshoots, Deadpool 2 is still on course for a release on May 18th, when it’ll be bookended by Infinity War (May 4th) and Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th). No pressure, then.
