Fans can’t wait for next year’s Captain Marvel to arrive, as it’ll give us our first chance to meet Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers, who’s said to be the most powerful hero we’ve yet seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

An air force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an extra-terrestrial following a near-death experience, Marvel boss Kevin Feige believes Carol’s actually about to become the strongest member of the Avengers roster. Those are bold words given that the MCU’s premier team boasts the likes of Hulk and Thor, but Danvers will apparently be giving them all a run for their money and now we’re hearing that she’ll also be taking the lead as we head into Phase 4.

Earlier today during the studio’s presentation at CineEurope, a brief featurette for Captain Marvel was shown and though it’s yet to make its way online, Twitter user Nikita Byrkin’s reporting that one of the things that was mentioned in it was that the heroine is “about to take the lead in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.” Given that Byrkin seems to be Russian, the translation is a bit rough, but the gist of what she’s saying is clearly that Danvers will be the new face of the franchise in Phase 4. Or at least, one of the main faces of it.

Though we weren’t at CineEurope to hear this for ourselves, it would make a lot of sense if that turned out to be the case. After all, we know that Avengers 4 will be the final outing for many of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and given how powerful Carol is, it’d be smart to position her as the new team leader. Not to mention that Phase 4 is said to expand the cosmic universe quite a bit, which Danvers would fit right into. Regardless of how accurate this latest piece of intel is, it’s pretty clear that Marvel has big plans for the character and we can’t wait to see her make her debut.

Speaking of which, joining Brie Larson for the 2019 offshoot will be Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Clark Gregg (!) and Jude Law as Doctor Walter Lawson (AKA Mar-Vell), a high-ranking Kree soldier who proves instrumental in Carol’s origin story.

Captain Marvel will finally – finally! – see a release on March 8th, 2019.
