Apparently, Channing Tatum loves the character of Gambit and has expressed his desire to portray the Ragin’ Cajun in future X-Men movies. Tatum was alongside his White House Down co-star Jamie Foxx during a press event this past week when the superhero topic was brought up.

According to /Film, after Foxx confirmed that the Sinister Six will play a role in The Amazing Spider-Man movies, Channing Tatum had this to say about the possibility of doing a superhero film:

I would like to play Gambit. Gambit’s my favorite. I’m from New Orleans, around that area. My dad’s from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real. No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, ’cause I actually like his Gambit, but I’ve always lived around Cajun people. […] Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking [guy]. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He’s a thief. He kind of rode the line.

I used to hate on Channing Tatum just like everyone else – don’t lie to yourself, you did too – and I never quite understood his rise to fame after making such unmemorable movies.  Slowly though, he’s won me over with films like 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike, and from his generally not taking himself too seriously attitude.

While he doesn’t possess the acting chops of someone like Hugh Jackman, Tatum does possess range and could certainly play a superhero. He’s already proven that he can hold his own in comedies, action flicks, and drama and I think that he would make for an interesting Gambit.

Not that Taylor Kitsch was bad in his role during X-Men Origins: Wolverine, as Tatum pointed out, but I was never wowed with his portrayal. In Kitch’s defense, he had at best three scenes of actual screentime, but even with the bit of action that was given to him Gambit didn’t feel like the wise-cracking, woman-loving, cajun that makes him one of the more popular X-Men characters.

What do you think? Would Channing Tatum would make a good Gambit? Let us know in the comments section.
