She’s been on the Fury Road and explored Dark Places for director Gilles Paquet-Brenner but soon, Charlize Theron will be bound for The Coldest City, and we now have word of exactly when the action-thriller will bow in theaters.

Helmed by John Wick co-director David Leitch, it’s now understood The Coldest City will open on August 11, 2017. Rooted in the world of global spying and corrupt MI6 agents, Leitch’s ensemble feature – John Goodman, Toby Jones, James McAvoy, and Sofia Boutella and Eddie Marsan all join Theron for the drama – is set against a Berlin on the brink of history, when the infamous Wall was set to be torn down in 1989.

Based on Antony Johnson’s novel of the same name, the official logline for The Coldest City outlines the globe-trotting mission that awaits Charlize Theron, who will be toplining the espionage thriller as decorated agent, Lorraine Broughton.

A high-stakes, global action-thriller that takes place in the city of Berlin, on the eve of the Wall’s collapse and the shifting of superpower alliances. Charlize Theron (“Mad Max: Fury Road”) portrays Lorraine Broughton, a top-level spy for MI6, who is dispatched to Berlin to take down a ruthless espionage ring that has just killed an undercover agent for reasons unknown. She is ordered to cooperate with Berlin station chief David Percival (James McAvoy of “X-Men”), and the two form an uneasy alliance, unleashing their full arsenal of skills in pursuing a threat that jeopardizes the West’s entire intelligence operation.

The Coldest City will open on August 11, 2017. After recently reprising her role as the gleefully evil Queen Ravenna in The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Charlize Theron can next be heard in animated adventure Kubo and the Two Strings, before terrorizing the Toretto crew as Cipher in action sequel, Fast 8.
