While much of Hollywood is stuck with a negative reputation, it’s always good to see an actor going out of their way with an act of pure kindness for one of their fans. One of those uplifting stories is what we bring you today. On Friday, Christian Bale called one of his biggest fans, Zach Guillot, an 8-year-old child who’s battling Leukemia, showing that he doesn’t need a cape and a cowl to be a hero.

They talk a fair bit about Batman and then talk about how the weather in Seattle is similar to Bale’s home, England. Bale also asks Zach about dressing up as Batman for Halloween and seems to genuinely enjoy hearing how big of a fan Zach is.

One of the best parts of the call is when Bale talks about the whole point of the films being that anyone can be Batman, and anyone can go out into the world and do good for others. It’s a reiteration of what Christopher Nolan has said countless times, but to hear Bale saying it to a child whose hero is Batman really shows the impact of the films. Bale also talks about how Batman has been around for 70+ years and tells Zach that he dressed up as Batman as a child as well. I’ll bet that when Zach found out who the call was from it gave him a pretty big boost.

Although Bale sometimes has a negative image, party due to his freak-out on the set of Terminator Salvation, in the last year he has done a ton to show that he’s actually a pretty good guy. First he visited the victims of the Aurora, CO shooting, and now this phone call. This call definitely wasn’t done for the good publicity, especially considering it was only filmed by Zach’s family, but Bale deserves some positive press anyway for being such a genuinely good person.
