Ridley Scott has not had the greatest of luck with historical epics. Kingdom of Heaven, 1492: Conquest of Paradise, Robin Hood…these are not household names for great epic films. But Scott is hoping that Exodus, his upcoming epic of biblical proportions, will fix his track record.
Though we haven’t seen anything from the film just yet, set photos have surfaced this week, giving us a glimpse at the director’s latest foray into semi-historical lands.
In case you did not know, Exodus stars Christian Bale as Moses, the man with the plan to liberate his people. There’s also a slew of big name stars on hand to round out the cast of presumably thousands, including Sigourney Weaver, John Turturro, Joel Edgerton and Aaron Paul.
Some of us have been wondering what Bale will look like as Moses, and now we need wonder no longer. We know: Moses looks like Christian Bale with a beard.
Actors often look comically out of place in full make-up and costume in set photos, which is the case here. Still, Bale looks less biblical and more like Bruce Wayne back when he was ‘finding’ himself in Batman Begins. This is apparently what a Jewish patriarch looks like in Ridley Scott’s world though and we shall have to wait to see how it pans out.
The other photos from the set give us some interesting glimpses into what Scott is preparing for us. This includes massive sets and Joel Edgerton doing his damnedest to appear Egyptian. I don’t know that I’m buying it quite yet; the images are beginning to remind me of some of the sets from Cleopatra. Hopefully we get some official photos soon so that we can get a better look at what Scott is trying to go for here.
For now, you can check out all the many different set pictures below and let us know what you think about the progress of Exodus in the comments section. Is Christian Bale all the Moses he can be?
