Chucky In Space? Don Mancini Says He’s Toyed With The Idea

Child's Play stalwart Don Mancini has joked about the possibility of a Chucky movie set in space, which would presumably be set after Cult of Chucky.

Whether it’s Call of Duty or The Fast and the Furious, space is often floated as a potential setting for ‘Title X’ when all other options have been exhausted, and the creators involved want to inject some excitement into a series that is beginning to spin its wheels.

More often than not, in the film industry that proposition is often tossed around as something an in-joke – a stupidly ambitious pitch that’s only made in jest. And though that may be true, that hasn’t stopped Don Mancini from proposing that Chucky’s next outing should catapult the pint-sized Devil Doll into the cosmos. Keep in mind that there’s a very good chance that Mancini is merely toying with the audience here, after he spoke to The Movie Crypt (via Bloody Disgusting) to promote the upcoming release of Cult of Chucky, the seventh instalment in the long-running slasher saga.

Building on the events that transpired in 2013’s Curse of Chucky, Don Mancini’s direct-to-video sequel is expected to creep onto Blu-ray and DVD this October. And after that? Well, providing Mancini isn’t joking around (and chances are he is), then we could be about to see Chucky in a space suit.

“I have an idea for Chucky in Space,” Mancini told hosts Joe Lynch and Adam Green, when Lynch joked that he’s expecting to see Chucky in outer space in the future. Mancini then dug a bit into the premise he has in mind, “You know how sometimes, like, kids will present a space shuttle crew with like, some totemic experiment or mascot or whatever? Chucky… Chucky in Space.”

Cult of Chucky, meanwhile, will come packing a hoard of delightful extras when it launches onto Blu-ray and DVD on October 3rd. If you’re in the market for the complete Child’s Play collection, you’ll be pleased to note that Chucky: Complete 7-Movie Collection will release day and date with Don Mancini’s horror sequel.
