Check Out Some Serious Crime Talk In Latest Clip From The Counselor

I do not ordinarily anticipate a Ridley Scott film with bated breath, but I'm making an exception for The Counselor. Based on the few trailers and TV spots we have been favored with, the Cormac McCarthy-scripted thriller will be a taut slice of pulp fiction as only the writer of No Country For Old Men can deliver. With a new clip hitting the Internet, featuring leads Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt, the anticipation has only been heightened.

I do not ordinarily anticipate a Ridley Scott film with bated breath, but I’m making an exception for The Counselor. Based on the few trailers and TV spots we have been favored with, the Cormac McCarthy-scripted thriller will be a taut slice of pulp fiction as only the writer of No Country For Old Men can deliver. With a new clip hitting the Internet, featuring leads Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt, anticipation has only been heightened.

In this latest clip, Brad Pitt gives titular counselor Michael Fassbender needed advice before he rushes headlong into some seriously illegal stuff. He does this by quoting none other than Mickey Rourke in Body Heat, though how many people are likely to get the reference remains to be seen. The clip is short and sweet and doesn’t given anything away, but at least we get a very small taste of what The Counselor has in store.

Conspicuously absent from the festival circuit this year, The Counselor has managed to garner a good bit of buzz due to a pretty amazing team of actors, writer and director that have contributed to it. Besides Fassbender and Pitt, we can also look forward to turns from Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, and Javier Bardem. While a good cast is no guarantee of greatness, those are all stars that can haul their dramatic weight. With a script by McCarthy (for my money one of the greatest living American authors) and hopefully some intelligent direction from Scott (who can make a good movie once in a while), there’s so far been no reason to suspect that this one will be a letdown.

The film will hit theatres October 25. You can check out the short clip with Fassbender and Pitt below and let us know what you think about the possibilities for The Counselor in the comments. Does this look like an Oscar contender, or can we expect a high-profile flop?
