Jason Isaacs’ manic doctor concocts A Cure for Wellness – and more nightmare fuel than you could ever need – in the eerie new trailer for Gore Verbinski’s imminent psychological thriller.
Hitting the airwaves during tonight’s Super Bowl LI, the promo is quite literally worlds away from the other trailers doing the rounds online, after audiences were treated to new looks at Transformers: The Last Knight, Ghost in the Shell and more. Tired of the deluge of blockbuster footage? Verbinski and screenwriter Justin Haythe have just the tonic, and up above you’ll see lead star Dane DeHaan descend into the depths of madness soon after checking into the most bizarre European “wellness spa” you can possibly imagine.
The results? A potent dose of psychological terror that heralds a welcome return to the horror genre for director Gore Verbinski. The Lone Ranger and Disney’s Pirates franchise notwithstanding, Verbinski first cut his teeth on The Ring back in 2002, and we’re pleased to report that A Cure for Wellness is more in line with the director’s horror roots than kooky Johnny Depp characters.
“There is a sickness inside us, rising like that bile that leaves a bitter taste at the back of our throats.” Thankfully, Gore Verbinski has just the tonic, and will administer A Cure for Wellness across theaters nationwide on February 17th.
An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness center” at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure. From Gore Verbinski, the visionary director of The Ring, comes the new psychological thriller, A Cure for Wellness.
