Earlier today we heard an interesting casting rumor in regards to the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey film. Sources close to the project were reporting that Charlie Hunnam was wanted for the male lead role, Christian Grey. Now, we’re hearing of another potential casting update and this time, it’s The Wrap who is telling us that Ben and Kate star Dakota Johnson is being eyed for the female lead, Anastasia Steele.

It’s probably safe to assume that most people aren’t too familiar with Johnson, as she hasn’t really broke out just yet. That being said, she did leave an impression with her role in David Fincher’s The Social Network, where she played the college student who introduces Justin Timberlake’s character, Sean Parker, to Facebook. The actress has also appeared in comedies like 21 Jump Street and The Five-Year Engagement and is currently filming Need for Speed.

While I do remember her scene in The Social Network, I’d be lying if I said that I was well acquainted with the actresses’ work. In fact, I don’t remember her in any film but the aforementioned David Fincher one. Perhaps casting a relative unknown is the way to go for this one though, given that it’s such a risky role.

Nothing is confirmed just yet except that Johnson is in consideration. Then again, so are several other actresses, so who knows if she’ll get the part. Apparently, the producers are waiting to cast Anastasia before they move on to cast Christian, so expect something official soon as filming will get underway this Fall.

Tell us, do you want to see Dakota Johnson play Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey? Are you familiar with the actress? Let us know in the comments below.
