Twenty years on from their drug-induced spiral into self-destruction, Renton (Ewan McGregor), Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller) and Begbie (Robert Carlyle) stage a reunion in the very first teaser for Danny Boyle’s dramedy sequel, Trainspotting 2.

Bearing the official title T2 – and absolutely zero connection to James Cameron’s Judgement Day – the snippet below comes to us via The Guardian, and acts as a nice callback to Boyle’s cult original where four twentysomethings navigated the darker corners of Edinburgh, encountering mind-bending drugs and impossibly sized toilets (read: hallucinations) to boot.

Penned by John Hodge, Trainspotting 2 is once again based on the work of acclaimed arthur Irvine Welsh, this time adapting the novel Porno which checks in on those four lowlifes twenty years on from the events of the original film.

It’s been a long time coming, too, and Danny Boyle’s continued interest in the sequel has ensured it becomes a reality. Attracting his top talent back for T2 then became a question of the core script at the heart of the movie, which McGregor claims is “really, really, really good.”

“The script was really, really, really good. I think, if that had not happened, none of us would be into it. I think we’re all sort of somewhat protective of what Trainspotting means to people, and what it means to us. None of us want to make a poor sequel to it. So had we not been presented with the most extraordinary script, which we were, I think we wouldn’t be making the sequel. But because we were, we are.”

Trainspotting 2 pulls into the station on February 10, 2017 on these shores. Those in the UK will be able to check in with Renton and Co. a little earlier on January 27.
