Critics Are Going Bananas For Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

In just a few short weeks, Matt Reeves' Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will finally arrive in theaters. All eyes are on this latest installment in the primate vs. human franchise, as it has a lot to live up to after 2011's well-received and hugely successful reboot/prequel/relaunch, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Can this new chapter in the long running series manage to live up to the hype and pull off the character-driven, action-packed spectacle that's been promised in the trailers?

In just a few short weeks, Matt Reeves’ Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will finally arrive in theaters. All eyes are on this latest installment in the primate vs. human franchise, as it has a lot to live up to after 2011’s well-received and hugely successful reboot/prequel/relaunch, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Can this new chapter in the long running series manage to live up to the hype and pull off the character-driven, action-packed spectacle that’s been promised in the trailers?

We mere mortals may have to wait to find out how the war between Gary Oldman’s disparate group of human survivors and Caesar’s family of genetically-enhanced apes shakes out, but a lucky few have already seen the film, and offered their opinions on it via Twitter. Luckily, they appear to be going bananas for it (sorry), and have hereby raised my astronomical expectations even higher. Check out their thoughts below, followed by the film’s official synopsis.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on July 11th, and stars Andy Serkis, Jordan Clarke, Gary Oldman, Kerri Russel, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Judy Greer.

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
