A Deadly Adoption Trailer Is The Best Thing Ever

How did a Lifetime Original Movie become my most anticipated event of the summer? Thanks for that, Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig. How did a Lifetime Original Movie become my most anticipated event of the summer? Thanks for that, Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig. The pair are starring in A Deadly Adoption, arriving on Lifetime later this month, and the first full trailer for the soapy flick has confirmed that it’s the most ridiculous, riotous thing to ever grace the small screen (probably).

Ferrell and Wiig star as a couple who decide to adopt the baby of a pregnant woman (Jessica Lowndes) that they’ve agreed to shelter until the birth. However, the woman’s own dark intentions complicate those plans. The trailer fills you in on the rest, which involves jealousy, adultery, murder, mayhem, car chases and all other kinds of Lifetime-style dramatic fireworks. And of course, a dramatic song swelling over the proceedings (Hidden Citizens’ cover of “Silent Running,” if you’re interested).

Developed and shot in complete secrecy, A Deadly Adoption was seemingly supposed to drop on Lifetime with absolutely no advance warning, with the idea being that people would freak out once they realized Ferrell and Wiig were both in it and skewering Lifetime movies as a whole. Unfortunately, news of the project got out at the beginning of April, after which Ferrell seemingly pulled the plug. Then, a giant billboard for it showed up, confirming that the cancellation was just another smoke screen. Now, having surrendered the element of surprise, the project is dropping new trailers that only begin to tease A Deadly Adoption‘s innate awesomeness.

Andrew Steele (The Spoils of Babylon) wrote the script for the pic, and it was directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg (Escape from Polygamy). A Deadly Adoption arrives June 20 on Lifetime.
