Deadpool Celebrates Summer’s Arrival With Cheeky New Photo

In the meantime, in spite of some serious talk of franchise fatigue, earlier this week, Incredibles 2 ($206M) overtook the year’s biggest box office disappointment, Solo: A Star Wars Story ($194M), to secure fourth place on the 2018 domestic box office chart. As a result, the superhero sub-genre now occupies the first four spots on the said list: Black Panther ($699M), Avengers: Infinity War ($664M), and Deadpool 2 ($295M) rounding out the top three.

Given the calibre of cape-driven cinema infesting nickelodeons these days – from the Parr family reunion to a foul-mouthed mercenary in a “big red body condom” – superheroes have people heading to their local multiplex in droves, and as such, it’s been a banner year at the ticket booth. What with Avengers: Infinity War conquering the elusive $2 billion plateau and Black Panther becoming the first African-American film to earn more than $1 billion at the box office, we can’t help but wonder what else 2018 has in store for cinephiles.

Speaking of the Merc with a Mouth, to celebrate the first day of Summer, Wade Wilson and the film’s official Instagram account shared a cheeky new promotional photo, which you can check out below. It’s not much, but it’s definitely in keeping with the marketing we’ve seen from Fox to date and came accompanied with the caption: So cheeky. #FirstDayOfSummer

Of course, apart from the summer solstice, the regenerative mutant has plenty to commemorate. Deadpool 2 is on the verge of earning $300 million stateside and $700 million globally. Bafflingly though, despite the massive success of his latest R-rated farce, Ryan Reynolds doesn’t seem keen on a threequel. However, should that change, we’ll be sure to let you know. Until then, you can expect the Merc to show up next in X-Force.
