Deadline has let it slip that Denzel Washington was pursued for a role in Fast & Furious 7 but the actor turned it down. There’s no details on the exact role but apparently it would have been a small part in the upcoming film and would have grown to be a bigger one in the following instalment.

Though Universal hasn’t made an official announcement, and has not found a replacement for Washington just yet, Deadline believes that the studio will find a major star to fill the role before director James Wan begins shooting the film. Seeing as Fast & Furious 7 will hit theatres on July 6th, 2014, expect a casting announcement soon.

Currently, we don’t know very much about the film, aside from the fact that Wan is directing, Jason Statham will play the villain, and most of the cast is set to return (though Dwayne Johnson may run into some scheduling conflicts).

While seeing Washington in the film would have been awesome, Universal should have no trouble finding another big name to replace him. I mean, Fast & Furious is one of the hottest action franchises in the world right now, I’m sure that actors are just lining up to star in the upcoming film. Plus, with James Wan at the helm, I think things are looking very good for the seventh instalment in this mega-successful series.

Tell us, are you upset that Denzel Washington won’t be in Fast & Furious 7? Who do you think should replace him? Let us know in the comments below.
