Thanks to the X-Men: Apocalypse set visit reports which went online today, we now have some new details about what to expect from Olivia Munn’s take on fan-favourite character Psylocke.
For starters, it turns out that the actress was originally up for a role in Deadpool, but when that didn’t pan out, producer/writer Simon Kinberg suggested that she would be a good choice to play Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse.
As for how the character is going to be portrayed in the film, we know that her origin story isn’t set to be addressed, though the actress did reportedly confirm that the movie will still deal with it in an indirect way. For example, she’s apparently someone who has been “used” as a weapon many times over the years, but it’s only when she meets Apocalypse that Psylocke feels she’s found someone with a “righteous purpose.”
In terms of powers, Psylocke WILL be telekinetic and posses ability to create a psy-dagger, which she uses alongside an actual sword. Pretty cool, eh? And finally, while Singer’s X-Men movies have always been criticized for the rather bland costumes, Munn will definitely be sporting a purple costume in the film, just like her character’s comic book counterpart.
As one of the most exciting additions to X-Men: Apocalypse, it should be interesting to see if Psylocke ends up standing alongside the heroes when all is said and done.
